I roll my own and use B50 on 60s classics and D97 on modern ILF limbs. Without silencing on recurves they both make a little twangy noise but after adding padding to the loop ends and wooly silencers they both are very quiet.

So you mean that is D97 quieter than FF+

I would say BCY-x and X-99 are the 2 quietest I have used. Both quieter than D-97.

That's been my experience also. 8125 and 8190 was also quiet and fast as is BCY Mercury

If it's quieter that d97, it would be impossible to hear. :goldtooth:

Wow to be honest this a loaded question with no real answer. In my humble opinion string noise can be attributed to type of string, number of strands in string, tightness of nock on string, string silencers used, location of string silencers, your release, the brace height of the bow, the weight of the arrow you shoot. I could go on and on. I guess that's why we get so many answers to this "simple" question! lol

I agree with you LC, but with the same setup and shooter (me), on my bows the BCY-x and the X-99 are noticeably quieter than D-97. Those are the only materials I have experience with, so are the only ones I can speak of.

Yeah I hated D97. But tons of people just loved it! Go figure. I once heard a comedian say "I"m glad we aren't all alike. If we was all alike you all would be in love with MY WIFE!" LOL so true. I'm happy some  people love D97. I'm happy some people love to play golf. Love to go the football games, concerts, etc. It would get ugly if everyone loved to bow hunt with traditional equipment. It's would get crowded out there.

BCY-X is good stuff. I run it on all my bows. I should say that most all my bows are ASL "Hill style" bows so they aren't real loud to start with.

I had a Kanati that was always fairly loud with a few different strings from a couple different materials, and I got it the quietest with a skinny BCY-X that I made. It's not a "magic bullet"on a loud bow, and I won't claim it to be, but it may help.

The bigger advantage to BCY-X/X99 over D97 that no one has mentioned is stability. My brace height stays much more consistent (basically never changes) once the string is shot in from new. I can't imagine it being noticeably louder than any other material, so I'd choose it on the stability aspect alone.

The only problem with BCY-x is that they don’t make it anymore!!!!!

Brownell stopped to produce FF+ .
I had good experience with FF+ with last recurve . FF is very quiet and after 3 days brace height was stable

Yeah, kind of a loaded question. When I got a new B55 string for my Grizzly it was twangy as hell. After fiddling with the brace height and installing otter fur silencers, it's now whisper quiet.
It's all a matter of tuning in most cases.

I am currently shooting D97 and have no complaints, but to be totally truthful, my hearing is probably not good enough to discern minor differences in sound.

Used a bunch of different materials. D97 for ff and b55 for non fast flight are the quietest I have found.

I personally have always preferred D97, but could probably make any bowstring loud with little work.

If for a Covert Hunter... I recommend a Mountain Muffler string over a specific material.
They really quiet the big hooks.  Feel free to send me a message for more info...

FF+/D97 or m last one was 8125. The 8125 seems to be a bit stiffer
FF+ and D97 are same material but in different size strands, by different makers.
Stay away from BCY-X or 452 unless you get approval from the limb/bow maker.
My Borders are not warrantied for use by anything other than D97 or 8125.  I know that other makers are the same.
Super Curves.....

I really like 452x. I liked 450+ but I like 452 x even more.  I use 18 strands and single serve perfect for carbons and wood, might need a wrap of floss but you could cut 1/2 the string and still use it.  Strong and quiet. Doesn’t move and very little fuzzing.

452x is worst thing you can put on your bow!
And all “X” material !
