Ok, just had leftovers for supper, so that went pretty fast.
Anyway, I hiked it up to the top of the hill at about 3:30, and got situated in a permanent enclosed ground blind. I was texting a few friends about hunting with Hope. I wasn’t sitting there 20 minutes when I see a doe come walking in from my left. I got all excited and picked up the bow. As she got closer, I could tell she was a younger doe, so I just eased back into a more comfortable position in my chair to watch her.
Then, just a few minutes later, another doe came in from directly behind me. As soon as I saw her, I knew she was an older doe, and decided I would shoot her if I got a good close shot.
She worked her way around to about 10yds out my right window, was slightly quartered away, and moved her near leg forward! I call that “the dead deer position”!!!
Everything went into auto-pilot after that. Next thing I knew, my arrow smacked her side, and she went to barreling out of there. At about 20yds, her front end went out from under her, and she tumbled over dead at about 30yds.
Total time from shot to dead deer was about 6 seconds!
I love it when a plan comes together. I also love this JT Traditions longbow!!!!!
Anyway, here’s first blood for Hope:
Entrance hole:
Exit hole:
I will be after horns from here on out, but have one place with special permits where I might get to try for another doe too. The plan is to concentrate on the bucks though!
I absolutely love these Hope bows. This is the 3rd time I’ve participated, and all have been good bows, and I have been successful with them all also.
Wish me luck for the next 2 weeks!!!!!
