Rutcation: Friends, Whitetails and Bloody Arras
« on: November 18, 2019, 09:24:54 AM »
Like many of us I use my vacation for whitetail hunting. I happen to have a couple friends who show up to get after these midwest deer with me and the hunting is only diminished by the fellowship, gourmet meals, and stories told over a nice glass of wine. Each year I find myself wanting more time to enjoy all of it!

This year Jack, Monty and I had a few of those evenings and some awesone hunts. I was lucky enough to be sitting flush with a buck already down. There is a story here somewhere on TG.
I was hunting one buck only, an old deer I had sheds from. He was at least 6 years old and had shown back up. I thought he had been killed but here he was in November on his feet.

Jack Paluh is a fine hunter and a better friend. His talent with painting is world class and I am lucky to share a bond with this soft spoken genius.

Monty Browning is like having that big brother who has done everything I have ever dreamed of doing. He has set the bar so high as a hunter yes, but as a Christian and person, even higher.

Jack and I lucked into bucks. Monty didn't get a shot at a mature animal which goes to show you that even one of the greatest to ever do it can be humbled by these crazy deer. I got blessed with my best archery buck to date and Monty helped me track. How sweet is that?  Enjoy the pics. Until next time :campfire:

NICE!  That's a great buck!

I have three of Jack's prints.  I am a huge fan of his work.  He needs to come down south and get some ideas for painting a hunting scene in an old Florida swamp!

Some people dream of far away places but right now I'd take your kind of vacation in a heartbeat.

Congrats on good friends and good times. Great deer as well.
Relax,

Thanks everyone! Jon you are right...when you hot, you hot...and lucky! It has been a fun fall. I do have a tag for Kentucky. I'm going to concentrate on a bluegrass buck. Might as well play the hot hand while you have it. Here are a few other pics from the fall. I can't say enough about my quipment. Talltines Stickflinger  53 at 30. The arrows are Black Eagle instinct and broadhead is a Grizzly at 250 grains. Total arrow weight is 700 grains. Passthroughs on both Illinois bucks and an unfortunate coyote that got in the red zone. Good luck to everyone still getting after it.
