done it again

my plan,   sit it out and wait for a big one.  took the week off just to do that.

was really liking the weather for this week, not to cold and not to warm.
I was hunting public land that I have been hunting for at least 35 years and I know this place like the back of my hand, and I have covered every inch of this place over those years, so I know some really good spots to catch cruising bucks.

things started pretty slow with very few deer seen, and some obstacles to make walking a pain in the ass and legs, because of the extra walking needed to get to where I wanted to be.

Saturday was spent checking places out and trying to figure the best way in.
sunday I got it figured out my best way in, but still a pretty good walk through crunchy leaves and ankle deep mud.
seen more coons than I usually see.

Monday morning, im sitting watching the young deer do what they do
a young doe eating wild grapes I cut off of the tree I climbed.

and a young bruiser looking for a fight,

and a young 4 point eating leaves

then things slowed down and I was getting chilled from the cold breeze and being under dressed, but the sun felt good. and was really thinking of heading back to the boat for a heavier hoody for the afternoon sit, but I knew midday was when to expect a cruiser to come by so I sat and fought the chill.

with my hoodie covering my ears I thought I heard a buck growl, (I cant hear very good any ways) so I pulled my hoodie down and started scanning to my right.

I see deer legs coming at a steady pace right at me, then antlers .
I grab my bow just incase, get turned. ITS AN EIGHT POINTER.

blood was good right at the shot, so I just climbed down and started trailing.

he went maybe 150 yards at a dead run. and stopped and fell over.

now getting a 175 lb. deer out a mile through mud flats (by yourself) is another story, this ol man is wore out. put the meat on my climber and packed it out. butchered with a 2  3/4" pocket knife

Awesome.  Hope to be using my Bison Gear First Trip like that soon.  But I'll take a bigger fixed blade custom knife, or two.
