Who hunts with a ILF set up ??
« on: December 02, 2019, 01:42:37 PM »
Been playing with different risers and limbs to get a hunting bow that works for me. Who out there hunts with a ILF bow, what’s you favorite set up?

Ron I just recently got my first one and have not hunted with it yet. I sure do like the way it shoots though. It's louder than I like a hunting bow to be, but maybe I can work that out.

I just got this in and have been tuning it up since tuesday. hoping to hunt with it in 2020

its a Taow 19" ILF riser (hoyt Satori clone) and Trad Tech Black Max 2.0 limbs short 60#s. made up a string Tuesday, added paracord mantle string silencers, and tied on a nock.  first five shots off the deck, two 10s two 8s and a 5. not bad.

I did not this year, but did last year.  I have a Black Wolf riser with a set of the Win Win foam cored limbs on it.  Took a nice late season buck with it last year.  Just decided to hunt longbow only this year.

ILF for about the last 10 years. Longbow, recurve , super curves.. They shoot the same as any other bow with many choices for limbs. I'm Hunting with a 13" Phoenix Max6 SS limbs 40#@26", Doe and buck this year complete pass though. I have an other 13" Phoenix Max6, 2 13" wood setup with Max5 limbs. Too much fun..

Keep them coming, I see metal risers seem to be dominant so far.....interesting.

Ron, the small grip metal riser is one thing I really like. I only use a leather wrap takes care of being cold. Love my wood risers but they don't feel the same.

Ron, for me, I already have a stack of wood bows, from simple selfbow to Widows & custom 3 piece take downs.  I was interested in keeping the expenses down and let's just say that non of the lower tier wood ILFs are too pleasing to the eye.

Also my plan is to camo paint whatever setup I settle on....and I've wanted a Hoyt for quite some time.  So this gives me the next best thing.

I'm shooting a JC Optimus 19" metal riser with 45# black max 2.0 limbs, set at approx 47-49lbs. I started with a black bear warf and then went to this set up. The 2.0's were a really inexpensive intro... and they shoot very nice and smooth, but will eventually, God willing, upgrade to the high end trad techs...or Dryads.  I really like the ilf system because of its versatility.

I used too, just like any other bow, just more tuning options! On the Dryad limbs I used, Limb Savers worked wonders

I had a set of Zipper Z4 limbs, I went to a club shoot and came home with the bow strung on the back seat of my truck. Got busy helping the wife with our moving sale, forgot my bow, 90 degree day, the limbs both hinged. I was sick over it. I did like the way they performed, but man that stuff is pricey.

Well that's one of the biggest reasons i love ILF for a hunting bow. If something were to ever go wrong, i can easily source replacement limbs and have them within days. Even if the same limbs are slightly off i can use the tiller bolts to tune the weight within fractions of a pound to match the originals.
