You Can Meet and Smooze With Some of the Legends of Bowhunting
« on: December 18, 2019, 11:57:55 AM »
You can do that and much more at the 2020 PBS Biennial Gathering in Springfield, MO March 12 -15. However, you better get your room reserved now as there are only a very few left. The response so far has been exceptional. We have sold out the host hotel and have had to reserve rooms next door (shuttle will run between hotels). We have really sharpened our pencils on this event and have reduced prices considerably. The value is amazing. Just a few of the renowned bowhunters to be present include: TradGang’s very own Terry Green, Dr. E. Donnall Thomas and his wife Lori, Monty Browning and wife Annie, Barry Wensel (hopefully Gene as well), Mike Mitten, Rick Duggan, TJ Conrads, Dennis Dunn, Gene Hopkins, Bryan Burkhardt, Jim Eckout, Nathan Andersohn, Doug Borland, Kevin Bahr, Bob Brumm, Walt Francis, Roger Fulton, Toby Essick, Jeff Holchin, Bill Terry Sr., Brad Jansen,  Bryce Lambley, Dr. Ben Pinney, Mark Viehweg, Walt Dixon, Ben Dodge, Tom Phillips, Norm Johnson and so many others.

Also, if you go to the PBS site or call Home Office and purchase your tickets you could be one of the first 150 (we're getting close!) who register and also receive an extra 50 raffle tickets as well as a chance to win a bow, donated generously by Bob Brumm of Great Northern Bowhunting.  In addition, in order to receive an official, collector quality metal name badge, registration must be to home office by Jan 1st, 2020.

You really don't want to miss this event. The seminars and keynote speakers are phenomenal.

Seminar: Barry Wensel - Whitetail Strategies - Barry Wensel really needs no introduction. He became easily recognized as “the guy in the crooked hat” in some of the first hunting videos ever produced, bringing his sense of humor and shooting skills to fans across the country. Together with his twin brother Gene, they have written half a dozen books and hundreds of articles. They have been involved in many video, audio and television productions. They have done hundreds of speaking engagements and hunting seminars all over the world. Bowhunting has taken them all over America, Canada, Alaska and Africa. If you want to learn some tips and tricks to consistently take world class whitetail deer, then you won't want to miss this seminar.
10 AM - 10:45 AM
Seminar: Dr. E. Donnall and Lori Thomas - Improving Your Field Photos - Don Thomas has spent his entire life outdoors. Although he worked for years as a physician, he has also been a commercial fisherman, bush pilot, and guide. He now writes full time; current responsibilities include serving as Co-Editor of Traditional Bowhunter and others. Don freelances regularly for most national magazines that cover fly-fishing, wing-shooting, and bowhunting and has authored 20 books on these subjects with several widely respected publishers. Lori Thomas is a fourth generation Montanan and a widely published outdoor photographer, supplying hundreds of photos in support of Don's writing. Their work is world renowned and has been shown in Retriever Journal, Fish Alaska, Gray's Sporting Journal, Shooting Sportsman, Traditional Bowhunter, and Alaska Magazine to name only a few. To view some of their work visit www.donandlorithomasphotos.com. You will likely never have another opportunity to learn from the absolute best in how to improve your field photos.

You just can't find a more fun and exciting way to spend a day. You can go eye-to-eye with wildlife and discover the greatest collection of record-setting big game animals ever assembled. Entertaining and educational, this world-class experience emphasizes the critical role hunters and anglers play in conserving the great outdoors. You can also dive into the excitement of the world’s oceans, lakes, and streams with 1.5 million gallons of saltwater and freshwater aquariums teeming with more than 35,000 live fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. $50 / person includes transportation, ticket to Wonders of Wildlife, ticket to Aquarium, and buffet lunch at Hemingway’s Blue Water Café.

Monty has been an adventure bowhunter for over 40 years. He is the author of "Bowhunting: A Passion For Life". Monty has no corporate sponsors and has paid for his own hunts by working 30 years in the local post office. Now retired, he “climbs and trims sixty-foot pine trees” to pay for his hunting adventures, which have taken him around the world. Monty has literally stared death in the face and goes back for more. Humble, honest, and tough-as-nails are words and phrases that have been used to describe him. Truly a man’s man, Browning has done things his own way and lived to talk about it. His favorite saying is that “stupid should be painful” (includes excerpts from Michael Ritchie book review). You don't want to miss hearing a few of Monty's stories.

More amazing donations continue to roll in including an amazing 8 day Hawaii vacation and hunt on Molokai donated by famous bowhunter Doug Borland. More information on this to come, but it is an amazing trip that many PBS members have taken in past years.

Jim Dougherty.

Read some of his stories and saw his photo's a lot in those early archery magazines. Seemed like he would have been one real a cool fellow to meet, a nice person, and someone worthwhile to get to know.  Those who knew him have confirmed just that.   Never knew he moved to Tulsa a while back before he passed or would have met him when I went back home a short while back to work for OSU.  A missed opportunity.
