Rubber boots for guy with fat calves
« on: December 18, 2019, 07:48:39 PM »
Need to get some boots with a looser top, I have Mucks now and love em but  can't get my wool britches in without being a bit tight.

How bout it , fat leg boys??  :)
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Hey Kenny not to be argumentative but I hate rubber boot....

I kill more deer before the fad came out tgan I can count.

I hunted it in Kentucky 3 weeks ago walked in to 5 different stands had 48 deer in range and not a one spooked  With my hiking boots...... Including A140 class buck.

If you absolutely positively have to have rubber boots I can't help you much.

I sure hope you're doing well I miss seeing you buddy.

I only care for the rubber boots because of the wading advantage. Lots of water in certain parts of my hunting properties.

Problem is, I can't wear them anymore due to their sizing. Apparently I'm the only guy in the country... world too I guess that has wide feet! I just can't handle waring them like I once did. Don't know if my feet are getting wider or the boots smaller.

I could never get much of any clothes stuffed inside the calves of the boots either. I have tried them all I believe. Even ordered some from France only to return them. "our boots run wide" .. BS! I've also been told that "Our boots will stretch to accommodate wide feet" Yeah, you stretch them!

This year I"ve gone back to my LLBean main hunters that go to the top of my calf. Super comfy and roomy even if you want to tuck your pants in... However they aren't 100% waterproof.

My dad had a pair of rubber boots that had a cut in the back which was spanned by a more flexible waterproof material. I don't remember the brand, and I'm not sure if I'm giving a very good visual description, but basically that slit would allow the boot to become narrower or wider depending on how you needed it. Once you had it where you wanted, there was a small strap at the top that you adjusted so that it wouldn't get looser or tighter. Sorry, that's the best that I've got. I'll be home this weekend. I'll try and remember to take a picture.

Kenny-

I bought my wife a pair of these this year for Christmas because she has "well developed" calves. She hasn't unwrapped them yet so no idea how they are. I am sure they make a men's version.

My hunting buddy has these and swears they are the best "Muck-like" boot there is. Then again he shoots a pre-War Browning A5 at ducks so take it for what it's worth.

BigJim,
Give these a look: https://www.bigcamo.com/bogbootbigfeetandsizes.php
They go up to EEEE Wide I believe
I’ve never bought anything from these guys that’s disappointed me.

Kenny,
If the 18.5” calf top diameter of the ones above isn’t enough, you could do what I do, which is buy the side-zip rubber boots. Lacrosse (or Rangers if you find them) and just leave them unzipped. My calves are HUGE 20+”, and boots or waders never fit my legs. Unzipped there’s plenty of room for the biggest calf and pant legs and still stay waterproof with the rubber gusset. Been doing it for years!!

Hope this helps.

Ive been using these lacrosse  side buckle boots for years , https://www.lacrossefootwear.com/insulated-2-buckle-18-od-green.html?currency=USD&gclid=CjwKCAiA3OzvBRBXEiwALNKDP82CbDKLZm72md9XIs_iLhBsuZ_qjBX324kEVSfMjXK8tkfZCfsCsxoC2OwQAvD_BwE
They adjust and allow a pretty big opening at the calf , it’s the only boot I can tuck my heavy insulated pants into

I have the same issue using my Mucks. I have a pair of lacrosse 1600  that have an adjustable strap on the back and the boot “folds in” when tightened. Problem solved.  No more issues

The Lacrosse Alpha burly are pretty wide at the top with an adjustable top.  They are pretty nice but not near as warm as the Mucks

I had the same problem with my Mucks, had to give them to my son. I ordered some Lacrosse Aeros and they will adjust plenty big for me. Really comfortable too!

Battled it for years. Finally fit into a pair of Lacrosse Aeros. Only use them when I know I'll be walking through water. Hunt a lot of LA and E TX swamps so they come in handy. Hip waders are even worse - my thighs make my fat calves seem puny, lol.

Cheaper alternative that I'm trying out - Hisea off of Amazon.  Run big in the calf and ankle.  Only had them a few weeks but like them for setting stands and general use around the house.  Plain green were about $68 buck delivered.
