Green tip decal?
« on: December 26, 2019, 02:26:06 PM »
I'm refinishing a set of Bear TD green tip limbs and think I might have ordered the wrong decals.  Might anyone have a set of green tips you could post pictures of, or provide a verbal description of the decals?  Thanks.

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but this is a limb tip of a Bear with green glass. Didn’t realize those things on the ends were decals.

Nope, McDave.  Those things on the end are limb tip overlays, which I'm sure you know.

I should have been more clear.  In the 80s, 'Bear started making the Custom Kodiak B takedown in what is known as a Greenstripe configuration.  The stripe running through the riser was green dyed wood.  The limbs that accompanied those risers were called green tips because the limb tip overlays were made of green action wood.  On the belly side in the middle of the top limb there is a decal that says Bear Custom Kodiak with a picture of a caliper.  On the mid-section of the belly side of the lower limb, there's another decal that says Bear Archery Corporation along with some patent dates and or numbers.

Over the years, there were small changes made to those decals. The red and white tipped limbs produced up to that time, may or may not have had the same decals.  After the green tips were produced, limbs were also produced with blue, brown, black and white, and now black and red tips. Some of these may have had the exact same decals as the green tip limbs, and some don't.  I'm trying to determine the period specific decal configuration for the green tips. Though they, too, may have changed over the 10 years or so they were produced, I'll be satisfied if I can replicate what I see on any set of green tip limbs.

Hope that makes sense.
