I looked at the dewalt because I have dewalt tools, but a lot of reviews were negative and it comes with a small battery while this one comes with the biggest battery and good reviews.

Went to use my pressure/vacuum pot and the damn gasket started leaking. Of course I don't have a spare, so I go online to see about ordering one and find out they want nearly $40. :o for what turns out to be 5oz worth of hard rubber. For that much, Im thinking maybe if I look hard I can find a silicone gasket. No luck.
But I did see where people were making their own out of RTV gasket maker, but that was going to be way too sticky to get in the gasket channel. Then I saw this oogoo stuff. Its just silicone caulking, corn starch and coloring. Sets up real fast because of the corn starch, but it also makes it less sticky, so I could actually press it in and level it with a little screed tool. Best part is I didn't have to wait a week to get another crappy hard rubber gasket.

Starting on an upgrade to my dust system.  Currently running an older single stage Jet rated 650 cfm. After roughing out 2 bows with my  edge sander (  I havent used a lot up till now) it was obvious my 650 wasnt cutting it. looked like it snowed in the shop and even my respirator was struggling. Time to upgrade.
So I ordered a Dust Deputy cyclone gizmo, and will be upgrading to a Harbor Freight 1550 cfm collector hopefully next week. I"ll have less $$$ in both than if I buy one of those fancy name brand dust suckers.

Now Im lookin at fittings etc to hard pipe my system and get all fancy and professional looking with it.
That edge sander spews out dust more than politicians spew out empty promises. Gotta tame that thing. Did some serious RedGreen engineering on it with some cardboard and duct tape and its better even with the smaller collector but what i need is more suction.
Was toying with hunting tonight but my wife said shes gonna sit in my blind so Im makin a bear roast for dinner. ( her bear) and shopping DC parts and fitting on the puter

John you will love the Dust Deputy cyclone.

It should def improve things, everything Ive read on them has been very positive. As for t he new DC,  called Harbor Freight and there is supposed to be a couple of em on the truck Wed morning so will call first thing and if so make the 2 hr drive over to pick it up. Can at least run that bigger single stage until the DD shows up to hook in. WIfe wasnt happy about buyin more shop stuff but she knows the dust is an issue that needs  improvement.

I've had the dust deputy for years and they are very effective. 99.9% of the sawdust stays in the bucket its mounted on and practically nothing goes into my shop vac. I was impressed with the results.

Picked this beast up today, 3 hr drive each way. Got home and despite a useless instruction book where with about 8 different size bolts and screws, the was no chart showing which ones went where. Nothin a lil head scratchin and a splash of bourbon didnt solve. Now just waiting for the super dust deputy to arrive. Will need to order some hose and fittings but will wait till its here to be sure what I need. I think when its all hooked up its gonna look like a giant hooka pipe for sawdust.

If you use the bigger dust deputy. you can mount that blower on the wall and run the pipe outside and get rid of that bag thing. Mine puts 99.9 percent of all the dust in the drum. The only time it got any outside was when my drum got full. Using the 4 in. model.

I finished a bamboo-backed osage today.  This is a piece of osage that I cut in central Kansas in 1996 when I was a teenager.  I turn 40 next month so its been well seasoned and it was absolutely was worth the wait.  That piece of wood worked like butter and just wanted to be a bow.  The bamboo is dyed with latigo leather dye and the bow is 51" nock to nock and 54#@26".  Hopefully I can get a turkey from a groundblind with it in the spring.

Matt
