Hey Key thats pretty cool! I still have print film photos from the bowyer (before digital and internet) when I inquired over twenty years ago about his bows.

Hello mister,The bow is already old as I am and I found it in a flea market, from a bowyer. The moment I saw it I found it cool......I’d also like to know its stories behind.

I'm kind of excited about this tiny little bow.  I cut this osage tree in central Kansas in 1996 when I was 15 years old.  This was half of a branch about 4" in diameter and has well over 30 rings to the inch.  The growth rings were so tight and so undulating that I knew my skills weren't up to the task in the late 90s when the stave was dry.  It took about 3" of reflex while it dried.....then it sat in the rafters of the garage at my mother's house for over 20 years until I got it down recently and decided to try something fun with it.  I used my belt sander to flatten the back (keeping the reflex) rather than trying to chase a ring because I really don't think I could have.  I then backed the bow with bamboo using TB3 for glue.  The stave was only 53" long and 1.25" wide.  It has over 200 shots now and I can pull it all the way to 27", which kind of amazed me....I thought it would explode, but here we are all tillered to 55@26" and it has kept all of its reflex.  I was amazed that the reflex stayed and there isn't any follow.  Sometimes things just fall into place and you get lucky.  The draw pic is at about 24" and the bottom limb looks weak because of the angle.  The bottom limb is actually slightly stiffer.  I'm hoping to finish the bow this week.

Matt

Here is the boo side after I finished sanding yesterday.  I'm going to stain the boo darker since this bow is planned for hunting from simple groundblinds.

I have been to 3D shoots and he was there, he is an excellent shot.

Pa started antler restrictions about 15 years ago and there are a ton of awesome bucks in Pa now.
