Nice Bvas

I got some string wax from 3Rivers Archery today.
USPS took 59 days to deliver the package, Date on package is Aug. 13th.

We will see how the USPS ships my next stuff in November

I'm making a riser from East Indian Rosewood  .920 x 3-3/4" x 28-1/2"

Cut one side to 1-3/4"

And cut it to 22" and split the short piece
Cut the other on on a angle to make it longer.

see the paper pattern next to the riser

I added a flat stripe---time to glue up

I finished a maple longbow backed with hickory.  I have been wanting to do some 1/8" hickory backed bows for a while, but I didn't have a saw that was powerful or precise enough to cut the slats from lumber until recently.  This bow is 66" long and 50#@27" with about an inch of reflex left after tillering and shooting it a couple hundred arrows.  The string is 14 strands of 452X and the overlays and handle are che chen.

Flnt VERY Nice eliptical tiller and bend at full draw!

How much backset did you start out with for it to hold an inch after it was shot in?

Looks really good

On the next one the high point of the arrow shelf needs to be in line with the deep part of the grip ;)

I agree with you completely......this was an experiment at best because I almost never cut an arrow shelf into wooden bows.  I got a wild hair on this one.  I did ponder radiusing the shelf as your diagram shows, but that tropical wood is CRAZY HARD and I was afraid I’d mess up the maple so I left it with the radius it had.  Seems to shoot really well.

Thanks

Matt

How much backset did you start out with for it to hold an inch after it was shot in?

I typically start with 3” of glued in reflex when I apply my normal bamboo backing.  The boo backed bows lose maybe 1/2” to spring back, but the hickory lost a full inch so the bow started with 2” of reflex before I started tillering.
