What a fun time this morn
« on: January 28, 2020, 12:09:29 PM »
Well fellas in earlier threads I was asking questions about ground hunting. So as usual you guys were quite helpful, I ordered me a tree seat and last couple weeks been trying to get a doe with my longbow. In that time I only saw 3 doe and 1 buck no closer than 60 yds. So went out this morning seeing how this is last week of season here in ohio. About 9 am I had 20 doe come in, I was sitting in a blow down. Wind coming from NW at about 6 mph light snow off and on beautiful out. They came in directly north of me and 1 old doe either saw me move or something,so here they come and surround me trying to wind me but don't? Then they flag and back up the hill, 3 diff times they do this they are within 15 or 2o yds but I cant move lol. finaly they go back up hill and start leaving. as Im watching the I catch movement to my left and here comes lone doe about 10 yds out and she has me I cant move. Needless to say had I been more alert prob could've got last one but I didn't. What a fun time tho and what a rush heart just pounding even tho I didn't kill one it was a great hunt! This ground hunting is fun!

Awesome, so much fun! I got my buck early and spent the rest of the season trying to get a doe on my millennium seat. Finally did a few days before Christmas. Had so many close encounters. It was quite fun!

I have learned a lot more about hunting deer from old does than from the bucks I have seen.

Ground hunting is where it’s at! Good luck with what’s left of your season.

Well season is over and I didn't get one from ground. I have to say tho what a blast, will definitely do more next year. Quite a rush having them close but it is really toughto draw on them when you got 30 pairs of eyes around lol. I think I am going to get me a ghille suit for next season, I got to fulfill this goal now! Any recommendations on a ghillie suit?

I've had two that were used successfully: kill suit from allpredatorcalls.com and the other is a ASAT ghillie used this past fall with great results. You are right-it is a different game at eye level but wonderful when you manage to get an arrow off accurately. Best of luck with your new endeavor.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
