Stalker Wolverine center shot help
« on: February 01, 2020, 08:28:30 PM »
Newbie so bare with me, also mods, feel free to move this post if it is in the wrong category.

I have a Stalker Wolverine which is cut 3/16" past center. It has the factory side plate material on it. When I nock an arrow and lay it on the shelf, I line up the string to the center of my limbs and notice the arrow point is pointing to the inside (right) of the string. I am using my arrow as an aiming point so almost all my shots are to the left by 6" or so. I bareshaft tuned and got consistent grouping of 3 bare shafts impacting with 3 fletched shafts. I believe my arrow is spined right and flying true. Would it help me to move the center shot so my arrow is pointing more to the left which would make me aim more to the right? Would building the plate out to make this happen change my tuned arrow spine? Thanks for any help, really want to get this bow tuned and setup so I can enjoy shooting.

Should take a piece of tape and put on each limb where riser meets, Mark center of limb THEN 3/16-1/4 to left make a mark...aline that 3/16-1/4” Mark up with string and arrow should ride down center of string...bring shelf out accordingly... this is eastons ways of setting up for proper center shot and arrow spline. Earl Hoyt jr was a promoter of this as well.

In regards to raw shaft tuning, they should shoot just like a fletched arrow depending on how well form/anchor consistency is out to 20 yards.
Raw shaft should be straight in target and just a lil high at end, maybe an 1”... left and right should be straight as well...hitting different than fletched shafts should not be on impact.
I always shoot with one unfletched shaft, it’s a common thing if I’m shooting for five arrows but I’ll always have one of them with the quills only on the shaft.

I did this...marked 3/16" off center to the left...lined arrow up with this line and it made the arrow stick more to the right of the string...which when i lined up the arrow manually with the string showed that i would need to shim side plate out a whole lot...~3\8"....this cant be right can it?

Could be in need of being brought out a lil... it don’t take much at shelf to bring arrow tip out a lot...try and take a tooth pick and slide it from top down towards shelf and behind your strike pad material to bring out. I’ve used an 1/8” square leather cord too behind thee as well.

Lay your bow on a real flat surface with the string on it, measure from that surface to your string at each bow limb tip and measure your string in the middle should be about the same.

If a limb is not InSync one with another the center shot can be off but I doubt that’s the issue but look at it to check.

Typically, a tooth pick or something an 1/8 behind strike plate works great.
And you welcome. My name is pastor Joseph Hart.

Will do. Thanks Joe.

I was able to make it home yesterday after work and had about 30 minutes of shooting light left. What I wound up doing was replacing the thicker side plate with a thinner calf hair plate. That was enough to bring my groups in line with where I am aiming now. I guess I was real close with the arrow tune before but now I am spot on. Just to check, I shot 3 bare shafts along with 3 fletched shafts and sure enough, they all grouped together out to 25 yards. I have a 20 yard point on fixed crawl setup for turkey season. Feeling confident now I can accomplish a harvest with my recurve. I have shot birds with compounds but this is my first 100% trad year, looking forward to new challenges!
