2020 Mt Lion
« on: February 16, 2020, 09:56:06 AM »
Been awhile since I posted any adventures, but thought this one was pretty cool! I had a cat tag for this winter and decided I would really like to kill one using my own dogs instead of running with others hounds. In early December I got to run my Drahthaars on a fresh track. After about a half mile male Cain treed the cat. I decided to pass on that one. Fast forward to early January and a friend and I headed out early looking for tracks. Right at first light we found a track. We threw on our packs, grabbed my bow and started walking the track. Within ten minutes Cain had this cat treed. A Simmons interceptor to the chest and it was all over! What a great feeling to finally get a lion all on our own.

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

I have a nephew living at White Sulfur Springs who has a Drahthaar.  Great dogs.

That is awesome!  You train those dogs on cats or just rely their natural abilities?

Tagsoup, they are trained to track whatever I put them on but their love, or maybe hate, for cats big and small comes natural. 100 plus years of selective breeding at hand!

Thanks for sharing your hunt and great pictures. Congratulations. The German Wirehaired Pointer is a great dog, not surprised they treed those cats.
