Zwickey deltas

Well I think I have the plan for my new/old bow. I am using a bear kodiak from 1965. 47# at my draw length. Pushing a 400 gold tip 50 grain brass insert and a 175 head . Need some sharpening tips and wondering what y’all think about pushing an almost 575 grain arrow off a under 50# bow. Broadheads will be zwickey deltas thanks all.

Sorry just actually did the math and the arrow should be about 533 total weight

I use a bastard file to sharpen Black Diamonds. I like the little rough edge it leaves on the head.

I use an Ekco wheel sharpener, the wheels are case hardened and put a hollow ground even bevel on most heads. I would suggest ACE 160 gr. the steel is a bit thicker and is superior because it sharpens better on the Ekco. It beats everything, perfect bevel, less time and removes the burr. Here is a picture and link.

That combo puts your arrows at 11.34 gpp. I'd say that's pretty good as long as they fly nice and straight.

Yeah I know most folks think that is a touch heavy but I was always a heavy arrow fan from my compounds so I figure losing a few FPS is worth better penetration on impact and I can always back the point weight down a touch if I need to flatten things out

I don't think that's heavy at all, a little over 11 gpp. About optimal imo. To sharpen Zwickey Deltas, I use a file to bevel the three thickness points to the same as the rest of the blade and take out any concaveness in the blade. Then I put them on a Tru Angle file file block to true the bevels on both sides and then work them on coarse and fine Tru Angle hones.

Sorry, had to catch a plane...
If you are using 2 blades I would highly recommend investing in a KME System. High quality product that will get the job done and last a long time.

When Ron at KME started his buiz he became a Sponsor on Tradgang. I got one of his systems and I KNEW this guy was onto something. He has been very successful with his product.
The one thing you need to address with Zwickeys is the tri-lam merger....and KME does that.

As for sharpening, I use a Rada wheel, fine tune with a fine file, or, I just use a Lansky sharpener. The Lansky gets my 2 blade Deltas unreal sharp. Your arrow seems a wee heavy but should be fine with some tinkering with brace height. One good thing about a heavy arrow, its how quiet they are when shot. Best of luck!

Way back when I was shooting Deltas I used a good 12" or bigger file and chock sticks. There was a plastic jig shaped like an arrow with a channel in it that your shaft laid into for a guide, really worked slick. About 15-20 strokes on each edge with the file and then up and down a few times on the sticks and you were shaving hair.
I have used about every sharpener known to man and that was the simplest … a gent from the Trad Bowhunters of Washington gave a demonstration of the method and it was awesome. I also like the Rada wheel for touch up.
