Best three piece longbow, recurve grip
«

I am thinking about ordering a 3 piece, and want some opinions on the best out there. I need one with a medium to high grip (no use trying to pretend I can shoot a low grip anymore), and at least 66" long for my 31" draw. Right now I am considering a Bear Paws longbow, but what other should I be looking at?

Never shot one, but I've been wanting a Morrison Shawnee. You can get all sorts of riser and limb lengths. Plus I hear the new carbon backed foam cores are the cat's meow. There are plenty others as well. Off the top of my head: Bob Lee, Firefly, Habu, A&H ACS...Mike

Ok, should have specified: one of the main reasons I am considering the bear paws is because of the price. Opinions of bows maybe below $700 or so?

I can give a very sincere recommendation for the Firefly. Here is a link to the thread I started sometime ago about my bow.

Bob Lee would probably not be a bad choice. He can make you the med/high wrist riser for a takedown longbow. His basic model is something like $540.

Try a Cooks Mtn. El Puma. I can send you some pics if you would like. I have 2 in my shop if you make your way up to vancouver, you are welcome to shoot them. They are both the El Puma, but one the limbs are set to the outside of the riser and the other they are pocketed into the riser. Brock

I would also recommend Bob Lee 3 piece T/D longbow.Which is cut 3/16ths past center and has a recurve style riser. It can be ordered in high, med.,or low wrist grips.Very solid bow and good performer and a modest price. Not to mention they've been in buisness forever and have great customer service.tradrick

I checked the bob lee website, and it looks like his longbows only go up to 64", which is not long enough for me. Knife River, i love the Bracks of course, but the wait is too long for me to handle. The Firefly looks interesting, as does the Cooks Mtn....

Hers a few other suggestions Mitch that you might take a look at as long as your shopping 3 pc longbows.Rivers Edge Recurves LXR,Lewis Hollows TD longbow thats 545$ for the base bow and Ancient Spirits makes a nice 3 pc as well for about 600$s or so in the basic bow thats a great shooter. You could have the grip custom made to suit your desires.

These days there are many nice bows to choose from and certainly a lot of good ones mentioned above. The Firefly made by Jim Jones shows outstanding craftsmanship with great performance. It is well within your price range and worth taking a hard look at.

Have you tried one?? Not all 64" or whatever length bows are the same while 1 may pinch for you another may not.Can you wait till July and go to Denton? You'd be able to get your hands on a good many bows to see what YOU like in a bow
Ron L is a fairly big guy that shoots a pretty short bow....
Good luck PS I shoot a hummingbird LB she's nice by me and everybody thats tried her

I dont have one but have shot a few Fireflys and they are top notch. For me it would be a toss up between a Firefly or Morrison.

It's amazing how many choices we have when it comes to buying bows.
I will add to the already 'fat list', Crow Creek. Another one is ThunderHorn, although I'm not sure if Duane can do a med or high grip.
