Anyone use Big Jim's Quick Stick to mount Broadheads?
« on: March 24, 2020, 09:04:19 PM »
Hello all,
I've read a lot of threads where folks say they love Quick Stick to install inserts in carbon arrows, but I'm wondering if it works well for mounting broadheads on screw-in inserts.  Or mounting BHs on wood shafts.
Thanks for any imput, Paul

Kenny, are you mounting the BH on wood shafts or the insert that goes inside the BH?
Thanks, Paul

That's all I've used for the last several years on my wood shafts... judo's, broad heads, or field points. Because it works great.

Thanks for all the responses!  And the good news!  I had already ordered some from Big Jim, based on what Bisch said.  I've been using 2-ton Epoxy, and once it's in there, it's there forever.  Having something reversible will be great.  I just wondered if my broadheads would pull off when pulling the arrow out of 3Ds, BH targets, stumps, etc.

Now Bisch, you know what you said.  That it was great for inserts, but all your Broadheads are screw-ins!  I needed information from real men that glue their broadheads on wood shafts!   :biglaugh:

Another thing that works and helps the glue adhere is 3 rivers has a tapered brush that goes in and electric drill and you can really clean your points before glueing .

Broadheads glued on wood shaft? My example from yesterday: Had a very therapeutic couple of hours roving; but broke all 3 of my judo tipped arrows. I had one practice broadhead left in my quiver, and against my own better judgement took a shot at a stump. Arrow passes thru and sticks in the ground, and I mean really stuck. I dig away the soil and looks like it stuck in a tree root... dig it out a little more and turns out the head somehow wedged itself perfectly into a crack between two rocks. No digging this one out, so I braced my stance, grabbed the arrow as securely as I could, and pulled with near all my strength and weight. Didn't think it would give, but it finally did come out.

Head stayed on just fine. Dinged up a whole lot, but still a solid mount.

Quick Stick works fine, but as a note, it has a lower melting point than Bohning Ferrel Tite that I have been using to mount glue on broadheads to aluminum adapters. So when heating up the broadhead to make adjustments the Quick Stick often melts first and the insert pops out of the shaft.
Using the same material on inserts and adapters may solve the problem, but IMO the Ferrell Tite forms a much stronger bond between broadhead steel and adapter aluminum than the Quick Stick does.

Well, that settles that.

Big Jim’s hot melt is the best I’ve ever used. The strength of this glue is outstanding. If the cleaning process is done as it should be, you won’t have to worry about it not holding until you want to take it loose.
Never measure the mountain until you have reached the top, then you will see how low it is.
