Annual Shoots In Jeopardy?
« on: April 02, 2020, 11:03:05 PM »
Lots of stuff on my personal plate (mainly my elderly mom now living with us) and other things were already looking to prevent me from attending some of the annual shoots here in the Mid-Atlantic. NOW this Wuhan Flu junk...yea bow stuff is insignificant vs. what's going on but it is a way to decompress.

The Baltimore shoot is in mid-May and I've read the Baltimore Bowmen will be making a decision very very soon.

My "local" shoot (closest to me) is the Greencastle, PA shoot Memorial Day weekend...haven't heard anything on it.

ETAR...late July...hopefully that's far enough out it'd be "safe" but golly days the logistics of setting it up PLUS all the vendors... :dunno:

Anyone have any input on ETAR or other shoots?

Thanks,

This virus just killed a 1000 plus people yesterday in your country.  It is now the number 3 killer in your country and its shooting for that top spot.  I wouldn't be planning any big get togethers until well into the fall.
Up here in Canada we have cities and provinces that just announced a no exceptions 12 week lock down. That puts in lock down until June and that's absolute best case scenario.
The usa still has entire states that havent even instituted social distancing policies.  They wont see their peaks for another couple months at best.
Seriously, setup a target in your back yard, enjoy the comradery we have here and hope for the best.  This is going to get way worse before it gets better.

We are not  planning on any shoots being held this  summer.  We normally are vendors at Compton and ETAR but probably won't travel this time around.  I believe even if they are held they will be very poorly attended because of the Corona virus.

I wouldn't even plan on a thanksgiving dinner with family. This virus is no joke.

Just accept that 2020 is a bust and make your plans for 2021.  I've read on the other sites where some states are planing on canceling out of state hunting tags for this year.

BB, could you please send a link? I have a June bear hunt scheduled in Quebec and while I’m 99% sure it’s off, I’d like to be positive in order to make other plans. Thanks!

Google 12 week lockdown Ontario.

Alberta and Sask have closed all provincial parks.  National parks are shut down.  We are expecting a press release up here soon stating best case country will be on a social distancing enforcement until July.

Best case.

I wouldn't plan on being able to cross the border.
Quebec has closed its border to all non residents including Canadian citizens.   It is in the middle of the biggest outbreak in the country.

I misspoke but I will leave it up for posterity.

Qubec has limited travel to Canadian residents and setup police checkpoints only allowing residents and people with business deemed essential to enter the province.

Also most provinces up here have already declared a state of emergency.

The fact people are still planning summer trips and vacations blows my mind.   The world's greatest generation was asked to sacrifice their lives,  we're being asked to stay home.

"The world's greatest generation was asked to sacrifice their lives,  we're being asked to stay home."  That pretty much puts it into perspective.  My 98 year old Father flew B-29 bombers in the European and Pacific fronts.  He still hates talking about it because he had so many buddies that he lost.  And he doesn't want anyone to think he's a hero, because as he says the real heroes never made it home.  I'm praying he somehow avoids this.  It grinds my gears that some are so self-centered and selfish that they can't make this, in relative terms, simple sacrifice.

Oh heck, we don't have anything to worry about.  The shoots will go on as others on this form have pointed out that it's just an "unsubstantiated panic-scare."

I know some of you do not want to here this but I am truly concerned for the people that think this is not real. Please don't take my word for it . explore the truth for yourself. If you can look back at my posts, I am a trad hunter only concerned about the trad community. I have never come here to "stir the pot" but I truly care for my fellow trad hunters. Please be safe and explore the truth for yourself.

WHY does this have to turn into a mele..?? We are ALL concerned...hunker down..hope your neighbors do as well...and lets get better. Pointing fingers and squabbling...or getting political wont help one bit. Support each other...and pray we all come out unscathed. We lost 600,000 in 1918...we lose many annually to the flu. I am diabetic..so I am at risk. Cool it with the bickering...it dosen't help anything.

Ok enough virtue signalling.  Ive been in fire/EMS for almost a decade and it always amazes me what things get the public up in arms.  Meanwhile there are still 1001 ways to die and thousands die from those things every day and no one bats an eye. Its quite absurd actually.  Bottom line stay vigilant, practice good hygiene, think critically.

Last Wednesday the virus stopped being about stats for me when my cousin died from it.
We are just staying put now.
