Noisey Hill Wesley Special?

I have a 67" Wesley Special that I really love, but for one thing.  It's louder than any other longbow that I have shot.  I know some will say, go to FF, but I want to avoid that.  I have shot quite a few others and dacron was quieter on all of them.  Many others will say to bump my arrow weight, but I have that covered at 14 grains per pound.  I think the recommended brace height is around 6 3/8", but I have mine around 6 1/2".  It really tames the handshock down.  How high can I go on brace?  It's bare shafting perfectly, and putting broadheads in the same spot as field tips.  I'm I missing something?  All my other longbows would emit a muffled bump, but this one has that fiberglass "tink" sound that drives me crazy!

I should also mention that I have a 14 strand B-50 string with wool yarn silencers.

My Hill bow you can tye a rubber band on the string and make dead silent....

Apex...just for schnits and giggles check the tiller on that bow.  Check it where the fadeout ends on each limb and see what it is.  That bow should whisper sweet music 8^).

Apex, I just got my Wesley in today and started out with a 2018 at 29" long and a 250grn head. it sounds great and stacks'em in there. the bow draws 60# at 28 " I'm thinking thats just over 10 gr per pound. you might try something like that. good luck, so far I love the bow.

I am getting some arm gaurd slap, but it's minor.  I have played with brace height, and nock height with no change.  I went back to bare shaft tuning, and noticed that it's much quieter shooting bare shafts.  I will play with feather orientation tonight.  I shoot 4 fletch though, so there isn't much wiggle room.  Maybe I'll have to go back to three fletches.

What shafts are you shooting? What are the bow's specs?

The bow is 50# at my 27" draw.  I am shooting 28" CE Heritage 150s with 100 grain brass insert and 250-260 grain heads.  Bare shafts really well.

Marty, I have seen you shoot that bow, and did not notice any noise. I had a recurve that I was hearing what I thought was alot of noise. I was telling a friend about it and he said, you know just think of it as the last thing the animal hears before the arrow hits him. He advised me to quit focusing on it and just shoot. Having said that after watching you shoot and standing behind you and not hearing anything and watching your arrows fly I would recommend not doing anything other than just keep hunting. That bow in your hands could be very detrimental to the game population around your area.

Your arrow is just touching the bow somewhere on release. Use some mole skin or some other materal (that is easy to remove) all over your arrow rest area if the noise goes away your arrow is just hitting somewhere. Then use some powder or chalk to find out where and either pad that area or change your shafts up or down in spine to correct.

When we shot this past weekend. I did not hear any noise,whisper quiet. Sometimes we hear something that is not really there cause we release the string close to our ear. I would not do anything as CJ said.

If you have a portable tape recorder, have someone stand nearby when your shooting and record several shots. Can also do this with video, with sound. This feature is on a lot of new digital camera's. This will allow you to evaluate exactly what the animal might hear. As said above, you might not have as big a problem as you think.

I get almost no noise from woodies but I do get noise from carbons out of my Hills, try some wood and see if it quites down. That Hill should just thud mine are whisper quiet.

Seems you've covered most of the bases.  You could also go a little higher on brace height on a 66-inch bow.  6 3/4 inches isn't uncommon on a bow that length.
