Just had a horn tip fail - Follow Up - “Hallelujah”
« on: April 24, 2020, 03:06:08 PM »
Have been shooting a bit lately.  This morning on my 3rd shot the string broke and so did the nock on the arrow which rattled to the ground.  Bow is about 4-5 years old and bowyer is no longer making bows. Other than a hickey on my wrist and a shredded nock loop there appears to be no damage, cracks or distortion.  Glad I have a back-up.  Need to find someone to fix the horn tip.

Sorry about your hand and bow.  Hope both turn out okay.  Odd that the arrow nock would break at the same time as the string.  I take it the string broke due to abrasions from the horn nock on the bow?

Edit:  do you think the arrow nock could have broken first and the extra force of the resulting semi-dry fire caused the string to break?

Man, that must really hurt.
I'm guessing your hand smarts too. :o

I was not hurt physically, but I wept.  Thinking the tip broke on last shot yesterday because I had adjusted brace right before coming out and it was good then.  Found the phenolic piece on the ground beside the target cause I always lay my bow on top of target as I pull arrows.  String broke on 3rd shot this morning so I don’t think the tip was on the bow.  Looking for recommendations about who may be able to fix it.

A nice gift certificate with it would be a nice gesture. 😀
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

That is a thought.  Already mailed bow back this morning.  I’ll for sure pay postage both ways.

Just thought I’d do a follow up on this thread.  Postman just dropped off a tube at my front door.  I opened it and the tip looks better than new.  Also, included was a new string.  I’ll do some shooting this evening as it cools down.  Thanks Brian, my day is a bit brighter.
PM sent.

Maybe tomorrow, just as I got her braced the heavens opened and it is supposed to last all night.  So I got string silencers in place, gentle thumbing and sounds real good.

Just tried to bare shaft a tapered Maple from @11 yards and snapped off the last 14” of the shaft.  160 grain tip on 70/75# shaft from 66# longbow.  Guess I need to go heavier!!!

WOW!!!  Put about a dozen 2315 arrows through bow after the rain last night.  Just popping on string and launching.  @12 yards and under 3” groups just a few inches higher than back up bow.  “Hallelujah” is back.  Thanks Brian.
