A Free Bowhunting trip to Alaska
« on: May 21, 2020, 12:45:44 AM »
Well... not really.. but close... sorry.  For those younger guys who are not familiar who Jay Massey was, and for some of us older guys who have let too many decades slip by and have forgotten, you need to know of a golden opportunity that is brand new. Jay was one of the finest traditional bowhunters, writers and woodsmen to walk this earth. We unfortunately lost him to cancer way too early in life. One of Jay's books titled "Bowhunting Alaska's Wild Rivers" has been out of print for may years now. And it's really hard to find because everyone who owns a copy cherishes it. The good news is a new podcast from "The Stickboys" via the PBS forum (professionalbowhunters.org) has just been finished. Traditional bowhunter/ singer/ songwriter Chad Slagle does an excellent job of reading Jay's text. It's a great chance to sit back. close your eyes and go on a free float trip/ bowhunt with Jay Massey down a remote Alaskan river. You won't be disappointed. BW

I have his books and magazines Alaska Bowman and wouldn't give them up for anything. They are entertaining and make you feel the adventure.

I thought Jay was killed in a plane accident?

Jay died of a brain tumor/cancer.  Hunted with him on the Moose John in '91.  Jay was truly a good person. I have his books, but will be listening to the Podcast as well.

Jay's books, Primitive Archery and The Bowyers Craft(both signed by Jay to me, 1987) are what got me started in building and shooting selfbows many years ago and he's been an archery idle to me ever since.

Just listened to first episode.... if this could be required listening/reading for my generation the preservation of trad archery forever would not be an issue.

Been waiting on a road trip for this....

Got to move my graduating daughter into an apartment out of state.  Maybe this will help the ride a bit....

I bet so!
