Just wondering
« on: June 06, 2020, 10:49:54 PM »
Wudstix’s last post got me to thinking.  How many of you have had a mishap like that happen to you?

I have had two; about fifty years apart.

The first time I was about ten years old, in the early 1960s. I was standing along side my dad as he was practicing shooting his bow. A bow probably built in the 1950’s.  A laminated recurve about 65” with a straight grip. A 56#@28”.
All of a sudden the string broke and snapped right across my face!  Man did that sting.

Then, a few years ago I was shooting one of my bows, I really don’t remember which one.  I was shooting a cedar shaft arrow. When the arrow hit the target I heard an odd sound.  I didn’t think much of it and proceeded to shoot the arrow again.  This time when I released the arrow, it shattered throwing pieces of arrows all over the backyard.  My hand looked a lot like  Wudstix’s did.

Very thankful it wasn’t worse.  Now I regularly inspect my arrows before shooting.

I was shooting 2315 and I think most of the hickey I got was from the string coming “unglued”, but yes it could have been worse.
