ALBERTA spring bear hunt????????
« on: June 07, 2020, 03:32:29 PM »
Can anyone recommend a trad archery bear hunt outfitter or camp in Alberta for spring 2021?
Who would you recommend? Have you personally hunted with them? Do you have contact information?
I would appreciate anything you could tell me.

It’s not a trad camp but that doesn’t matter, Dale McKinnon outfitters. Giant bears, tons of em. Think he had 14,000 sq mile exclusive area. His stands are set up close n low. You’ll see numerous bears a week. If I was going again I’d be going there. I have bowhunted there before. No issues. I can’t recommend him highly enough. Great great hunt. Your biggest dilemma will be which bears to take

Joe idk how set you are on Alberta but I’ve hunted Manitoba with Stickflingers. They are a sponsor here and easy to search their web site. The owner Ryan Derlago runs a great camp with super guides. In recent years Ryan has expanded his territory to run an all weapons camp but still gathers all archery groups out of the birch river camp site. Everyone I’ve met at these camps are super guys, many I stay in touch with. I’m booked for my third trip.
You will have to call around but keep in mind the border was closed for this spring hunt and that may alter typical availability with outfitters as booked hunts are pushed to 2021 where hunts were probably also booked. Best of luck if you want to talk more PM me. Jim

Hey Joe, send Rocky an email. He knows a good one that he has hunted with.

Joe, there's a small TG group booked with StickFlingers is that is of interest.  Might be an opening or two.  I can check on it if you like.

Thanks everyone for the information. My son's wife has close family members in Calgary, so having a bear hunt in Alberta would be convenient for him. I am learning that the bear hunting in Alberta is absolutely spectacular.

Does anyone else have anything to share about spring bear hunting in Alberta?

Again, THANK YOU to Trad Gang for helping out.

When I’ve hunted there the bears are extremely not inpressed by people. Days we’d drive quads in to bait the smaller bears came out of woods to raid quad containers right in front of you sometimes. The bigger ones were sometimes somewhat aggressive. Some guys bow hunting actually carried shotguns too. I’ve personally seen them aggressive there.
The hunts were def fun. You’d see multiple bears every night. Up close and walking right to bait sites. None of the nervous pussy footing common other places.
The bugs weren’t too bad to be honest, least when I’d go. Sometimes there was still snow on the highest peaks.
A thermocell butane cartridge isn’t allowed on plane carry on. Maybe if you plan on using one have it shipped in advance. I’ll be honest I never felt I needed one.
The planes didn’t seem to consistently have you luggage. Seems no big deal to anyone they fly your stuff in next day. Make sure if you need medicine or something you carry it w you.
Bears expire extremely easy. You’ll be surprised when they fall down in sight.
Keep us posted, Alberta is a great bear hunt and the only place I now go. I’ve hunted all over. That province is one of my favorites.
There was mention of Manitoba and Slickfinger. Not to detract from his thing, I’ve never hunted that province or with him.

I have hunted Stickflingers in Manitoba twice. The owner/ outfitter shoots traditional gear. Bait barrels are set up for 10-15 yard shots.  Most people in his camp shoot trad gear.

So, its ok to blow up bears over bait with a gun Bowguy, but the real question is do they have trail cameras right?  :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
