Favorite string material
« on: June 08, 2020, 02:39:18 PM »
What is your favorite string material and why?  Favorite serving?  Im finding that i see a great deal of influence on spine and some change in speed between various low stretch materials.

I like D97 as well. I used b50 for many years but if a bow is ff compatible there's no reason to use b50. It's twangy and slow and the feel is so much better with D97 in my opinion.

I have two NM bows that both came with D97. I think I will stay with them, so I guess that makes it my favorite material.

BCY-X, small diameter and the vectran makes for minimal stretching. Serving 62xs, tough and stays in place well.
shoot straight shoot often

I don't want to hijack this but how many strands of D97 are you using on a 55-60# bow?

I am a fan of BCY-X I pre stretch my strings and they stay at length no stretch no creep also like 62-XS serving.D-97 is a good material but to me X is better ,I have made strings from 97 and in my opinion X is my preferred string material.

D97 12 strands up to 60 lbs . Fast flite plus is also good I think (maybe) it is the same thing as d97 just smaller diameter strands .

I have used Fast Flight and Fast Flight plus that all I have used. I heard that Brownell in no longer in the string making business BCY makes the same but under a different name.

We are always testing and have a 6 strand D97 on my bro's bow .  48@28 - 64" D/R - TD longbow .

I'm sure not advising that few strands.

And the string is a pita to serve, much less look like much of anything.

Stay sharp, Kenny.

450 Plus. 155lb breaking stength, skinny string, no creep, less hand shock, quiet and a little bit faster.

I’ve done extensive testing with pretty much all the different materials, stand count, ect....
My preference on any of my bow designs is 16-18 strand bcy-x!
I’m gonna have to do some more testing with some of the newer materials since it is no longer available.

8125 for modern bows

D97 for selfbows and older glass

Why. They perform the best!

I have Chad and SBD make my strings for my FF bows. I like BCY-X, doesn’t stretch in our 100* temps. For my old Bear I like the string 10 Ring made from B-55.
