Anyone from Charleston SC area
« on: August 09, 2020, 10:06:04 AM »
Be willing to give a upstate hunter some general advice? Will be coming down at the end of Sept , 2nd grand daughter to be born then. Anyway wife is going to be staying a couple weeks . If there are any good public land around from Mt Pleasant to Georgetown that is open for hunting then I may bring my bow and stay too. Just looking for general areas. PM me if you have any pointers.
Thanks in advance

I lived in Mt Pleasant way back in 92-96 and the only public land I found to bowhunt nearby was in the Francis Marion NF.  That was soon after Hugo tore it up, but I killed deer, hogs and spring turkeys in three different units.  Hellhole was my most productive unit - I would follow a creek or drainage into some standing oaks and do well.  The Santee unit was my favorite because it had the least damage and I liked hunting along the River, and there were food plots (green fields) at some places.  Not easy hunting and lots of snakes, some gators along the River.  If you had a skiff, that would be very useful for the Santee unit.

Just south of Charleston is an area called Bull Island Refuge(I think). It's been a while but I heard it was good hunting. I would think there would be good hunting areas in the ACE Basin areas south of Charleston.
