Walnut Footed Riser ***(Finished)***
« on: August 18, 2020, 09:58:48 AM »
I was on my way to MoJam in Marshall Missouri about 4 years ago, and only 5 Minutes form there I passed a yard with half a dozen people cutting up a tree, A storm had come threw the night before and up rooted it., I notices the brown heart wood so I turned around and asked If I could have some, walnuts all over the ground.
I went to wal-mart and got some wood glue and and went to the Jamboree and sealed up the ends.

So here is one of the riser blanks, Iv' wanted to do a footed riser so I got busy.

Pretty slick Mark.

Love working with it also. I got a bunch of it when the power company cut down a tree at my moms a few years back. I’ve always wondered if the sapwood was safe (hard enough) to use.

Is it still considered footed using the same wood for all three pieces?

Good question?
I thought it was the way the stripes flares out at the limb pad. :dunno:

Part of my grip and site window will have sap wood in it.

I've never heard the term "footed riser".  It's not in the Vocabulary section.

I know what a footed arrow is -- a softwood shaft with a short bit of usually dense hardwood spliced into the head end to give the shaft a slight FOC balance.  But what that has to do with risers, I haven't a clue.

OK -- I found a description of a footed rise on the Blacktail Bows website.  It features a belly and back wood of contrasting color to a thin central strip of wood which flares out to be the only wood at the top and bottom ends of the rise... sort of an I beam effect with large ends on the eye...  Blacktail claims it as a proprietary design.

The main reason I made the riser with Walnut was it was free, and I did these stripes for the first time, no loss on a fancy riser. :bigsmyl:
