Smooth on
« on: August 23, 2020, 03:11:04 PM »
Hey guys, how long does a can of smooth on ea 40 last sitting on the shelf?
The reason I ask is that I found some down in the basement that’s got to be At least 4 or 5 years old. I used it to build maybe two bows when it was new And it’s been sealed ever since.
I opened it up and it looked fine so I mixed up a small batch and dyed it to fill some voids and cracks in some cheese boards I’m making. I’m not sure though if I would risk gluing up a bow with it.
Dave.

Ive had failures from using old SmOn. I would only use it for prototyping w/ inexpensive handle/core materials to check perfomance etc and not expecting longevity

No need to risk a whole bow, use it for overlays that can be redone if it fails.

I’m not planning to build a bow with it. I’m just surprised that it’s still useable after all this time. It works great for filling voids in wood and it takes dye well. In this heat it hardened already. I mixed it just before I posted this question.

I've used 2yr old EA-40 without issue. I don't worry about age until part B starts to get that foul odor
