Hunting hickory cutters

Squirrel season opened here in Va on Saturday so I took my longbow out to a stand of hickory trees. As I walked within view of the trees, the grey squirrel pictured started scolding me, I held still with an arrow on the string and he came for a closer look. When he paused on a branch I shot and the bunny buster blunt folded him. A good start to the fall season, one shot one kill.

That’s always a good choice. Even though the smallmouth fishing has sucked this year

Very nice shooting. Squirrel with a longbow is a challenging animal to hunt. They are small, FAST, very jumpy/skittish, rarely stop for shots, and even if all that works out the little boogers are pretty darn tough.

Always love seeing tree rat kills with a trad bow. Congratulations on a challenging trophy.

Great shooting and a fine trophy. Pennsylvania’s season starts on Saturday. I can’t wait.
