African Horns & Bushbow
« on: September 06, 2020, 11:10:56 AM »
I had a very unusual yesterday.  A friend of my wife brought over some interesting African horns, a Bush bow, and hides because they were cleaning out a storage unit form 1972! It seems the husband went on a 2 Month safari in 1972, brought back trophies, stored them, and never touched them until a couple of days ago. He knew I made knives with horn and asked if I wanted these as he was going to throw them all in a dumpster!!

Hides still wrapped from 1972...Impala, Steinbok, Dui Kar, Spring Bok, Gens Bok, and Eland.
Horns Cape Buffalo, Wildebeest, Eland, and I forget the last trophy.
Plus he gave me a Bush bow he picked up on safari. My shop now has an African wall :)

Bow is 54 " long, rounded and tapered to the ends.  The tiller is still good even though it has been in a storage unit strung for almost 50 years...luckily the brace height was very low.  The string is some sort of fiber...not sinew. I don't know what the wood is...has more the appearance of walnut maybe mahogany...tippit

Well that’s pretty cool......

I’m pretty sure the horns on the left are hartebeest.
Nice haul, especially the bow.

That is a very cool bow. Plenty of knife handles in those "trophies".

None of my friends ever gave me goodies like that! The bow is especially cool. Will a round bow hold up under usage? Why doesn't it break under tension? How great will that stuff look in an archery collection!
