Dan Toelke's Chinook & 64 SS?
« on: September 12, 2020, 09:54:11 AM »
Looking for some thoughts from a tradganger about Dan's Chinook and 64 SS bows.  Someone out there ever got the chance to shoot both and compare?  :archer2:

Wish I could help you with the SS. But I love the chinook. Only bow I still want is a second chinook. With that said what is your draw length? I ask because Dan talked me out of a super d due to my short draw. He will tell you where the sweet spot draw length wise each of his bows is.

Only 27" draw. I have a couple of Gregg Coffee's, Javaman, 64" They are super nice shooters. Think the limbs are little less width than Dan's. Just guessing. Always wanted one of Dan's anyway(never too many bows, right?)  No elk or speedy goat tags, so why not a new bow?   :biglaugh:

Right here! Had an SS and now have a Chinook. Both are extremely smooth drawing bows. How long is your draw length?

Based on your 27" draw I bet you Dan would tell you to go with the chinook.  If I remember correctly I believe is super static comes to its sweet spot at 28 and past. The chinook comes alive at 25"

Oh dang, you did say 27". What Petrichor said! If you had a 30+ draw them the regular SS would work well. They also have a long riser version for 28" draws but if I were you, and you want a bow that will eek out every bit of energy at your draw length, you should probably look at the Chinook harder. Maybe a 58" Chinook.

Yeah I have a 26 in a 1/2 inch draw and Dan put me on a 58 in chinook

Yep! I had no idea he was there till I watched it. So cute. That 3 year old is a beast of an archer already.

Here are some pictures. Bow is 50lbs at 26”. Lefty of course, curly maple veneers, micarta riser, cocobola accents. Classic grip with black beaver tail grip. The curly maple comes alive in the sun.

I’ve had a chinook for three years and it’s the best recurve I’ve ever shot. I was shooting it today and I’m still amazed how smooth and accurate it is. Dan makes a great bow.

Good luck

Thanks guys. There is one on Dan's inventory got my sights on. The one with the lbs I was thinking of was tiller for three under, which I don't shoot. But there is one I think would be just right. Give him a call in the AM

That one with an even tiller (3 under) will shoot just fine for you if you shoot split.

Dan also explained to me that the tiller really didn't matter for shorter draw lengths and became an issue with longer draws.

I own both and also have a 27” draw. The Chinook is 55@28 and the SS is 54@28. Both excellent bows, but at my draw length the Chinook is about 10fps faster with the same weight arrow. The SS is really easy to shoot well because of the 64” length but I think you need a draw over 28” to get everything out of it. I would give Dan a call and order exactly what you want, their wait time is usually not very long for custom orders.

Get the Chinook! Way more impressed with it than SS, I have a 31" draw and the Chinook is just a little short for me, if he ever makes a 62" Chinook I'll be buying one and selling some of my other bows!

A 62 would be pretty sweet! Id like to see a 60 or 62 SS.

He does offer a newer version of the SS designed for guys with shorter draws. So you can get more performance if you have a shorter draw.

I would ask bowyer about how that one compares to the Chinook if you have a shorter draw.It may even up the performance at shorter draws and give you less finger pinch and more mass weight if your goal is the smoothest release possible and potentially better accuracy.
