New toy to access hard to reach spots
« on: September 24, 2020, 04:27:32 PM »
My wife gave me my Christmas gift early this year! The lake behind the house have lots of small coves, and a several creeks feeding into it. Should work out good. She drafts really shallow & is insanely maneuverable.

It’s been great so far. Taken out fishing a little, & on a scouting/early teal and goose trip. No luck on the little birds but did get my first goose. My hunting partner and I found several good deer spots along the shore that are only accessible from the water. This boat is a lot easier to handle by myself than my 17’  Grumman.

Nice gift from a nice wife.  Hope you get to add some buck blood to the goose blood in your new toy soon!

I’m a kayak fan for stability, but canoes have more hauling capacity.  It depends on your needs.  Must have been a large stocking!!!

A bit on the heavy side as canoes go but a very durable craft.  Enjoy. :clapper:

Already taken an early resident goose with it the first day I had it.

My hunting partners yak is 9” shorter and 4lbs heavier. I would LOVE one of the ultra light, sub-20# Kevlar canoes! But this is super durable and while it might be double the weight, it’s half the price as well!  :goldtooth: :biglaugh:

I've got an old 15' Ouachita canoe that I've had forever. Gotten a lot of use out of it to the point that I stand up in it to bow-fish.
A few years ago I got to wondering if I could use a Kayak paddle in my canoe. Found one at a yard sale & gave it a try. Works well but a bit of an ab work-out by the end of the day.

Love canoes...still mourning the discontinuance of Royalex, but I managed to score a sweet deal on like-new Royalex 16' Wenonah  Aurora after they stopped it.  Not an issue where you can just drag it out on the bank in your back yard.  Kevlar's even lighter, but possibly not the best choice for the rocks and rapids I encounter in shallow rivers.
