I had the pleasure to meet Barry last year at Kalamazoo. He signed my copy of Crooked Hat Chronicles, but more importantly he talked to me like I was somebody even though he didn’t know me from Adam. Prayers for both Wensel’s and all of the other care-takers out there.

I’ve always respected Gene but even more so now, with his care of his wife Donna.

Hang in there Barry.  FYI my wife is a pharmacist and every day she does what you did on your own - help patients find cheaper drugs that do the same thing as the prescribed one.  When she does, a simple call to the Dr usually results in a revised prescription.  Nobody should feel bad about asking their pharmacist to do the same, it’s their job.

Gene and Barry's impact on hunting whitetails with traditional gear will not be fully appreciated till long after they are gone. If you were one of the lucky one's who got to meet them or got to share time with them they made a impact on you in some way. These guys probably could have made a fortune off the hunting industry if they wanted to but they stayed true to their beliefs. What a rare thing in today's world. That said I treasure every time I get to come in contact with them by any means even if not in person. They are the last of the best with just a couple others in their class. Let's appreciate them for whatever time God let's us enjoy.

My older brother was at some show, and for some forgotten reason, I wasn't with him.  Very unusual.  But Barry was there, and my brother bought me a copy of his book, and had him sign it.  The inscription read  Murray, I hear you suck.  Try harder.  Barry
I'll treasure that til the day I die.

Gene and Barry. Been a long time. Sorry for the problems that have come up for you. We will be praying for you. Hilary and I moved to Wisconsin. No more Skunk River monsters, although the hunting here is pretty good. Best wishes and healing to you guys. Ed Lash

I went through similar experiences with my parents, as I lived the closest when their health deteriorated. Very glad I did it, but it can be very wearing on the caretaker when a loved ones health demands such constant care. It is very hard on on the one that's ill. It is hell to lose your independence.

Much respect and empathy for Gene and his wife.

Gene and Donna were at the house not long ago to watch some UFC fights and tell some great stories . Gene is always in great spirits and his sense of humor is amazing as always. With a little luck he will at least get a week or so during the rut to hunt. Hopefully god will grace him with a huge typical for all his efforts! No need for another giant nontypical like Woody!
