Carbon Nock Size
« on: October 01, 2020, 12:23:30 AM »
Hi Gang,

I just got a new Mountain Muffler string (which is great by the way) and the serving is thicker than my old string. I primarily shoot Gold Tip traditionals with this bow, which have standard diameter GT Series nocks. The GTs and Easton Super Nocks are way too tight on this serving. My knockoff Lumenocks fit pretty well. Is there a way to find .245 nocks with a wider string groove? Am I better off heating these nocks and trying to widen them to fit?

Thanks!

I am not aware that nocks come in different string groove sizes, except by accident. While you can heat standard nocks and widen them to fit, they won't fit as consistently as stock nocks. Better to change the serving to fit the nocks you want to use. If this is a custom string made to your specs, you should be able to send it back with a sample nock, and they will change the serving for you. Otherwise, it's not too difficult to learn to put on a new serving yourself, although it does require a little investment in time and equipment. It will probably be your first step into building your own string, which is a useful thing to know how to do.

Actually, you CAN heat the nocks....with a coffee cup full of microwaved water! Get it near boiling, let it rest for aminute or so. With the nock on the arrow, dip the nock up to the point where the open portion becomes a solid portion of the nock...no farther! Then simply place it on the string and remove it smoothly. Dip in a cool glass of water. Should be set PERFECTLY. At least it has worked for me.

Thanks guys! I had serving thread already so I bought the jig for $10 and re-served it. Much better. I appreciate the advice.
