Wood stove in RedBird's Nest
« on: October 09, 2020, 05:41:09 PM »
I finely got the hearth and stove I've had on order and got it installed in the cabin. It came in the nick of time, it's been getting down in the 30's at night

It looks like you are getting nestled in for the winter. RedBird's nest is really looking good.

A friend brought me a load of white oak. It was cut and stacked a year ago but it wasn't split until just before he brought it tome so it's not quite seasoned yet.
I batoned it into smaller pieces and it burned better

That place is looking darn near perfect, Ron. All the place needs is the smell of some bacon and eggs and morning coffee cooking to be absolutely perfect. Can you cook on that wood stove, or is it heat only?

Well, Ron.....then it is ABSOLUTELY perfect.

A place like that is in my future pretty soon. I am looking at land to buy for my retirement hunting/fishing spot. I will put up a small cabin and a bunch of tree stands, cut some trails and live the good life. Deer camp for me will last all season, and spring and summer will be fishing camp. My spot will likely be in Michigan because my wife has family there. I can live anywhere there is land to roam, but she needs family near.

You have a great set up, Ron. I am paying attention to how you are getting it done.

Ron, I think your nest is darn near perfect!!!  I'm pretty sure that lil red bird is sitting on your shoulder singing her approval. I know the time will come when you reunite, but I want to be greedy and keep you here so you can keep passing on the tradition, and your wisdom, thank you so much for what you have done for all of us that have chose to follow you down the traditional path.  I hope to hear many more stories, and poems from Shrew Haven, and Red Birds Nest.  Good luck to you and you friends, and family this year!!!

Now if a man had a good bottle of bourbon and a proper whiskey glass in a place like that—-well that would be a little slice of utopia. 😉👍
