Rick Welch
« on: October 11, 2020, 03:16:42 PM »
Back in July,my awesome wife gave me the best birthday gift ever.A two day shooting class with Rick Welch. It was something I had always wanted to do,but it had never worked out where I could go.What a super great time I had there! He taught me more in two days, than I ever picked up on in ten years.
The first thing he did was, change my arrow setup. This took my 42 pound longbow from,155 fps to 177 fps. What a difference that made. Most of all,he helped with the mental parts of archery. He taught me how to block things out,and never let anything negative come into your mind.
And, man oh man can he shoot.I watched him stand in the same spot and shoot at ten different targets from 15 yards to 50,with his 65 pound hunting bow, hitting a ten every time.Holding about,a second and a half.
He shoots one arrow, then retrieves it.
It was the best time I ever had, shooting my bow.
Rick is a down home, country man, just as nice as he can be.I thought I would be really intimidated, but he puts you at ease right
from the start.
My legs and feet are a little bit tired, but its worth it to me
I recommend this school to anyone who wants to improve their shooting.

I've wanted to do his course for a while too.  Three years in a row something has come up and bumped it off the calendar for me.

Rick's a great shooter, hunter and coach... He was a Sponsor here for years.

He also produced some really cool hog videos that are very entertaining.

Care to elaborate how he gained you 22 fps with the same bow?

Change in arrow setup likely means lighter arrows and therefore faster speeds. I’ve shot my longbow through my chronograph and for every 100gr of arrow weight change I see ~8fps in velocity changes.

Instead of Goldtip traditional, he went with Goldtip ultra lite and lighter points.

Haven’t seen much of him at local shoots the past few years, glad to know he’s still around.
