Palmer Extreme 4 blade?
« on: November 19, 2020, 08:31:03 PM »
Wondering who has used these, and what # would be necessary to push on through an Iowa whitetail?

I like the looks of the Zwickey Delta 4 blade and will likely shoot those as well, but im sharpening challenged-if i can't use the KME system thats kind of a turnoff for me.

That palmer extreme looks like a muzzy phantom to me. I always had good luck with the phantoms but never tried to resharpen them.

I doubt you'll be able to sharpen those deltas on the KME because of their convex. I always had to sharpen the 2 blade deltas free hand.  But they're good heads

They are made by muzzy but a little wider than a phantom at 1 1/2” I believe. If I could get by with a 160 gr head I think it would be a good choice, the bleeders are removable to ease sharpening . I wish they would make a 200 gr

I shoot a 47lb Palmer recurve @26" with heritage 90 shafts cut to 28" and my draw is 26". I've taken a few whitetails and never had a problem with the Palmer Extreme Cut heads. I thought i might have a had a problem with penetration on a boar hog I shot last year but I'm pretty sure i hit the scapula. On all the deer i had pass throughs or lodged in the off shoulder.

I got some packs from 3 rivers.
I had 2 negative side after shooting them for pre hunt practice in broadhead target (rinehart 18 side)  side first they don t hold to much hard impact and alloy ferule bend quite easily and second more serious, some of them will quickly get a little play between ferule tip notch and the blade. That make noise and doesn't give confidence in the toughness. I resold all of them as I couldn't stand with a broadhead with a play in the blade. Maybe it was quality control or my batch that wasn't good but that s my short experience. There’s several MUCH better choice if you look for a wide cutting BH

Centaur broadheads ( Jim Neave) makes much tougher WIDE BH but 2 blades. I use the 150 gr shortmag with 75 gr steel adaptator.
If you want quite ready to hunt BH out of the box 4 blades close to the palmer's weight wise, though little less wide, the 150 gr kudu point are really tough and now can be upgraded with bleeders. (4 blade) Price is fair as well for the quality and sharpness. They are curiously underrated in the traditional bow community but they are really tough, fly perfectly ( they are spined to be shot out of the fastest compound as well) and penetrate insanely out of traditional gear and don't make noise as all unvented broadheads. A hunting mate of mine killed 12 animals with the same kudu point 150 gr BH. They are made in the US.
I shoot heavy point in the 200-225 gr on 100 gr insert so they are too light for my taste but those would be my choice if I had to shoot a BH in that range of weight.

I shot the muzzy phantom ss for years. They are 220 grain with the bleeders. Unfortunately I put my last one through a deer two seasons ago and hit a rock on the other side. I wish I would have snapped up a bunch of them before they discontinued them. These look very similar to the wide SS, that I used to shoot. I've switched to 4 blade deltas and although hand sharpening can be a pain, they have proven deadly to me and have been for others for many years.

I want to shoot them Terry, just concerned that a lot of vendors are sold out, plus I cant use my KME to sharpen them and I'm pretty well useless without that sharpener

3 rivers website says sold out and not available for backorder. I do have 3 or 4 at the house but they need mounted on adaptors. Id rather have glue on so I can make sure they spin properly.

I have not ill check it out

All are glue ons... just need adapters....

1st it was No Mercys that were out, now the deltas?

Something is seriously amiss.

I reached out to Zwickey and a few of the sponsors, hoping for good news.
