good warm boots
« on: November 25, 2020, 03:37:43 PM »
cold weather is coming, and im needing some super warm boots. ( my feet freeze)
boots that i can sit on stand for about 4 hrs at least. something that is soft and pliable enough that i can still hunt in if i decide that stand sitting isnt working.  im really thinking something like a mukluk would be great.

 any good ideas?

They are as good as it gets. They are not light weights.

My feet used to freeze something terrible. Especially ice fishing down to minus 64. I finally tried the following: cabelas sold insulated pac boots in an unscented flavor. They came with a felt liner. I bought them two sizes too large and added another felt liner one size up. I wore polypropylene socks...very thin. Added ragg wool socks over them and shoved em into the boots. I can sit all day with warm feet. I can walk in them but you gotta unserstand....they aint mocassin quiet. Brand of boot was Kamick i think.

Always liked my Muck Woody Max. I bet I've had my current pair for ten years (not joking). And they are warm, not crazy warm but I wear wool socks with them and I'm fine for about 4 hours at least. They are also very comfortable.

My muck arctic pro boots are pretty dang warm. I got them a size up so they are still roomy with heavy socks. They would work for still hunting. I wouldn’t climb a mountain with them but they are plenty comfortable for walking.

I have a pair of Keen boots that are very warm I think they are artic something model  light and easy to walk in . Also Fox River has boot socks that are the warmest of all socks they also have a sock liner that is as thin as silk but is 60% wool.
If you use toe warmers stick them on the top of your toes not under much warmer .
For the warmest boots but not real great to walk in are the Lacross iceman they have an insulated bottom with a felt liner very warm .
Im from ND and we hunt and fish in very cold . I get cold feet easily and these are the things that work for me .

Trouble is many of the suggested boots may be outstanding but to get them here is an online or long drive thing.  No try before you buy.  Muck boots have a good rep.  I may get some of those arctic ones.

I have been having good luck with Sorel boots up here in Edmonton Alberta. I got them big enough I can wear 2 pair of wool socks and then I also put in a pair of the foot warmers. Used to always have cold feet, but no more. One of the biggest things also is that you can pull the liner out and they will dry out overnight. Some other boots are good, but then you can't dry them over night, they take longer to dry out and then you have to hunt with them every other day.

I like to wear about 1000grams of thinsulate to the stand with toe warmers taped on top and bottom of toes. If really cold, I bring along a set of good boot blankets
 They REALLY help...Gary

I have a pair of Sorel felt pack that are over 30 years old. I've hunted in very cold weather and my feet stayed warm. The boots are still in good condition, and I replaced the liners once.

I think the real secret is to leave enough room so warm air can get trapped around your toes...hence the buying a size bigger comment. The other killer is your feet getting damp. Obviously wet and cold is not a good combo. I hardly ever wear rubber boots anymore  because of it. Now I wear a 1000gr Melinda boot with boot blankets. The boots are very warm and super lite

For me the best cold weather boot has been Schnee hunter 11 boots. Insane. Never had a boot not get cold in till them. I hunt around great leaves and PA mountains in them so wet and cold is the name of the game hear. Have 2 pairs of mucks and both bottoms are falling off. My third pair got a hole after a half season of use. Granted a stick poked through but not durable imo. Some love them but google mucks bottom falling off. Very common

It all depends on if your mostly a stand hunter. My feet freeze all the time. I gave up on bulky boots. Tough to walk in. Tough to climb a tree stand with. I'm a believer of wearing light weight boots to the stand and then putting on my BOOT BLANKETS! If it's really really cold I'll throw a couple hand warmer packets in there. Down side is they make the tree stand platform a lot smaller. But sometimes the last 45 minutes of daylight which I think is prime time I'll take them off. Sometimes I swear I've took them off too early and can't make the last few minutes. I have the Artic Shield boot covers and absolutely hate them. Not near as warm and noisy as heck for me.
Most people get rich by making more money than they have needs, me, I just reduced my needs!
