Corner of shame !
« on: December 04, 2020, 10:04:30 AM »
I’m clearing out my house over winter and this time I quit making excuses to keep things I never use ,not the first time I cut up the corner of shame bows but went as far as cutting up the first bow I ever made and some of my earlier bows , there where a lot of good memories making those bows and hunting with some ,a lot learned RIP ! I was wondering what every body else does with there corner of shame ??

I've found some good bows in my corner of shame. Some of these bows or staves I've had problems with I would set aside before I broke something of injured my self because of frustration have turn out to be pretty good bows once the fog of war had cleared. My corner of shame has grown over the years but I refuse to get rid of it. Too many possibilities in there for not only myself but for other bow building wanna-be. These bows are like my pound puppies, they make good pets.
Looks like some nice Christmas presents in that pile.

I have a lot of scrap osage from time to time as well as a few bows that just didn't make it for one reason or another. At first I stacked this stuff in the corner behind my bandsaw thinking I would find some use for it. One day I got tired of hoarding this stuff, I carried it all to my burn pit behind the shop and put a match to it. At first I felt sense of loss because osage is so special but having to light these bonfires gets easier over time, now it is just part of the bow making process and I am glad to get it out of my shop.

I won't throw my first bow away cause I couldn't stand the shame of my trash guys seeing it.   :o

They keep stacking up in the corner.

Once in a while I cut them up for the wood burner.

I'm watching this with interest. I don't have a corner of shame (yet), but it will come with more time and failed bows. Currently I have one broken bow from me screwing up the heat treating and roasting the back near the tips. I think I will put the pieces on a board and hang it on the wall in my shop to remind me to be more careful going forward.

Burning the scraps makes the most sense, but I am sentimental (and a pack rat) like a lot of us and feel bad getting rid of something that may be useful in the future. I will just have to get over that and consider stove fuel as useful...

Well I guess it never totally goes away. I have hundreds of bows under my belt and the last set of Curve limbs I got a taper in backwards. Prolly peel the glass off and clean it up    :knothead:

My corner of shame is a lot bigger than my corner of fame. Probably always will be!  :goldtooth:LOL

I,ve got a couple in the bad bow corner. Come spring they'll go to the garden for tomato stakes.

Knock on Roy’s head......I’ve only made eight bows, but not ashamed of any of them.

Fire pokers!
There’s nothing like seeing the faces of others in the dim light when they see you walk up to a campfire and poke it with a bow.
