I started off 30 years ago with aluminum, but just never took a liking to them.  Anything except wood seems improper and takes something away from the whole experience.  I have used cedars for all my shooting and game taken,  except that first deer taken in 1991. They are time proven and do the job.

Congrats yourself Gary! Ron French makes some fine wood arrows, drop dead gorgeous and deadly.

A Lex,

Tell us about your Buffalo kill. Bow specs and broadhead

Matt
I did a story about the hunt in the April/May 2018 issue of TBM.

If you can't find it or would like it, I can re tell the story here....

Basically a single 1100 grain Red Balau wooden arrow with a big Grizzly Kodiak broadhead from my 75lb Blackwidow longbow at 11yards, put right through the middle of where it would do the most bad, and he was down and permanently out in less than 20 seconds.

That's the nutshell version, but there is quite a bit more to it. If people want though, I can put the whole story in.

Best
Lex
Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......

Lex, you don’t have to. I can look through my old magazines and see if I can find it.

Unless you just want to, I am sure the Gang would like to read it.

I was curious about your draw weight, broadhead and arrow. Thank you for sharing.

Picture from the 1980's.  Still shooting wood and I have never seen a need to change.

My 2021 buck shot with a Surewood Douglas fir homemade arrow, 4-blade Magnus broadhead launched from a Wild Horse Creek Destiny longbow.  I have used wood arrows for 47 years and have not had a single animal complain about that wood arrow passing through them. 100% satisfied customers.

The bow was a 62" Wild Horse Creek Destiny takedown longbow (of my making), 50# @ 28".  The arrow was a Surewood shaft with a Magnus 4-blade broadhead.  The arrow weight was about 600 grains.
