The limb tips are 1 inch forward the rise
Those outside clamps are 16 inches out from center

How much reflex is typically lost?

This one is further out. Same amount of tip forward of riser.

Usually lose 1.5 inches.

Your second picture will give more reflex and less deflex than your first picture.

First picture will be a sharper looking bow and will work more of the limbs.

I think you would be happy with it.

Don't get hooked on a lot of reflex.

The more reflex you have the trickery it is too tiller.

After looking at your form again, you do not want those wide boards for the center and mid limb posts. You want a narrow post where it contacts the bow.

Go back and look at my picture of bow in the form.

The way you had it, you wouldn't have gotten much deflex or reflex at all.

Still looks wide if I'm seeing it right. My posts are just the edge of a 3/4" thick board. I'm afraid if it's clamped down onto those wide posts you have there, it may be possible to create flat spots in those areas.

No.

Take one of those upright boards and mount it to a wide flat base.

Go look at my form again, where the bow contacts the top of post.

These posts are lined up the way they go under the bow...

Wade, it's going to be a learning experience for you making a bow.

Its difficult for us to explain things in here.

I was lucky as Bowjunkie who replied above took me under his wing and taught me in his shop.

The glue joint is what holds the bow in its shape after you take it out of the form.

If you used those wide posts in your picture, the bow would come out of the form with flat spots on both midlimb areas right where the posts were. 100% guaranteed.

Glue up is only a minor part of making a bow.

The finesse work begins after glue up.

But go for it, we all started like you are now.

Take notes and pictures and post the pictures here.

And remember this, once you start removing wood with power tools and hand tools.

Go slow and think, because you can always take more wood off.

BUT, if you take too much wood off in one little spot, you can't put it back on.

And the bow will be toast.

These posts are lined up the way they go under the bow...

I radiused my posts and put the clamp hole concentric with the radius so that the bow always touches tangent to the post regardless of the angle the bow hits the post and the clamp always clamps it on with no twist added.

I make a shelf out of a couple pieces of stiff leather glued together and pre shaped. Then glue it on the bow.
