Pin knot ran the whole way across the limb.

About 1/4", that is a side shot and there is evidence on the other side that the twig ran clear across the belly.

Other side. I posted all these pictures before...

I know, but this time I got to wondering how much good wood there was on the belly because you don't really need much to carry the loads. The knot must have caused some prying/separating action in the core that lead to the failure.

That pin knot is a little old twig remains, not solid wood. Knots on the belly of a bow is bad news.
It's water over the dam now anyway,

Any knot that runs across a limb is a potential failure waiting to happen. I think this knot is acting like the fulcrum causing excess bend in that area which caused the compression failure. Getting osage to fail in compression like that isn't an easy task. Well done, Roy.

Okay. Is that the lenght you usually make? I have been using 12 inches, but are thinking of going a bit shorter for a long draw without lenghtening the bows total lenght.

It depends on my mood and the block of wood I have.

I have made 12" risers before, even thought about making them 10 inches.

And another question...on a wood bow like you have done here...can a guy put a figured maple veneer over top  a hickory backing?
Basically I'm thinking from the flares to tip.
Would that work?
