Kid's Bow Poundage...
« on: December 16, 2020, 09:38:28 PM »
When making a child's bow, what draw weight do you shoot for and at what draw length are you measuring it??   I am talking for kids around 6 to 10 or up to 12 yr.s old...

    Thanks...

I'd say 10 pounds at 15 inch draw.

Then for older kids they would pull farther and get maybe 15 to 20 pounds.

Whenever I have made kids bows, I try to make them so they grow into it. Usually a 25" ultimate draw for kids that are not too young. 20-25# ultimate weight. Obviously at shorter draw lengths, the weight is manageable. Thats pretty general and would vary depending on the specific kids size and strength.

I made two by cutting 2" stock in half and building on a 1" form.  If you cut with a razor knife there's no loss to kerf.  Jess Stuart can tell mor on this.

I weigh mine at 20", not sure why I picked 20".  My five year old granddaughter shoots a 13# @ but probably draws about 17".  It still will fling a arrow 10 yards and stick in the target.

Funny story...  When I was about 8 years old I got a piece of coal in my stocking...  I thought it was the coolest thing...  In my mind it became very personal...  Santa was really watching me...  I felt special...  I didn't get just plastic toys like every other kid out there, but I got a piece of coal.!!  I cherished that piece of coal...  I felt special...  Seemed the plan backfired for my Dad...  You know my mom did not do it...  ;)  The story was told at all the family gatherings that year and everybody got a laugh out of it...   :biglaugh:
