Boo slat bow (Finished)
« on: January 15, 2021, 01:07:19 PM »
If I was to do this again I would start with the thickest Boo slat I could find.
I was sure it was going to take set but still a fun project.  60" NTN 30#@28"

String serving

Leather dye

Belly

Yes,  ive toyed with the idea of a glass bow in that design.  Might still do it.   I built one very similar with a red oak board and a tapered overlay to stiffen the tips.  It came in very light but was still a decent shooter and is still floating around in the family somewhere.

Biggest design differences were no reflex and the working portion of the limb was a pyramid design.

I love the unbraced, braced and full draw profile. The width of the working part of the limbs looks too blocky for my liking but what do I know. From the look of the bend the outer portion doesn't seem to be doing much work. The last 6" of the working limb could be tapered to reduce physical weight which could add to the performance.
Very nice bow!!!

Nice! How wide are the limbs, and how thick is the boo in the center? I've contemplated something similar but I can't get boo with enough diameter to get a flat enough slat out of it.

I started out on the edge sander to get them flat and measured the thickness and got both of them the same thickness, I was impressed when I braced it and it only needed scraping the last 6" of working limb, I also got the 8" of tip bending a little. It tillered itself almost :)
It's 5/16" thick when I measured it last .
you can see the bare/raw inside on the whole working limb in this picture, about 3/8" flat above and below the CA glue

you  can see the bare/raw about 6" long mid limb (in the Picture) left over after it was finished

the boo was full width and all I did was sand the sides a little to  parallel the sides, just under 1-3/4"

Thanks guy's
