You can buy endmills with a very small radius on the corners that will keep that from happening.
A 1/32" radius is plenty.  45 the outside corner of the limb butt.

I agree that riser is going to want to crack in those corners every time. I would say use a bigger radius for wood, more like 1/8" and radius or chamfer the corner on the limb for clearance. Even then I would be worried about the riser cracking there, it just isn't a good way to load wood.

I say a good size G10 Ibeam. maybe .375 might be good with your radius.

Vince, I built a TD with the limbs set into riser like that, it cracked in those corners.  Is that where the other one failed?   I built a new riser for the limbs of phenolic with 1/4" scales of bocote...

Kenny,
I actually have a G10 bed from pad to pad, the portion between the pads that looks one piece are multiple laminates of glass

On the bow handle that blew up was a deflex design,,I found a knot and worm hole that gave way under the stress.

see attachment...

Finally got some shop time today and this build is being just as contrary now as when it started. I may have to rethink using a super lam, not matter how drastic I make the scarf joint it just doesn't want to hold together. I have it glued up once more and give a good full day to cure and see what happens on the next dry run.

Lonnie, if I understand what your saying the lam is a little to thick to make the bend of the riser with out popping the joint. If that’s what it is you could splice a piece in then you would have two joints but they would be moved away from the high stress bend area in the center of the riser.

That is a great idea, especially since I have lost about 3 inches of length already. That would also give me a little more flat area to aid in getting a good fit for the form.

Thank you sir.

You can also make a short sled about 2 in. shorter than your riser. Dead center of that sled apply a few layers of masking tape to get a buildup in that spot. Now put your scarf joint on top of the tape and run it thru the drum sander. Thins the joint so it will flex.

Check in.  Should be laying up later this week.  Think I have the form issues handled.

Thanks Shredd for a very nice bow. I haven’t shot a bow from someone else for several years. The bow I got in the swap is mid 40’s and 62”...perfect. Has a good amount of reflex and feels pretty quick with good tension on the string at brace height. It shoots really nice for me.

Glad you like it Mike...  Hope she works well for you...  That bow takes a 62" string...  I'm weird...  I write the string size on the bow...  No confusion then...   :)
