The antler was definitely the way to go. I think it goes well with the two tones black locust. This is with one coat of truoil.

I’m building a plain and clean bow this year. Hopefully!

With the snow, ice, and cold temps here, I haven't worked on the swap bow in a week.

I have a new tool coming soon, a miniature miter saw, has a 3 inch blade with 100 tpi.

Be perfect for cutting the limb tip horn overlays angle off the bow and the overlay itself off the slab of buffalo horn.

Little hairy holding a 64 inch bow with one hand while trying to make an even tip overlay cut with the bandsaw.

New tools are always good.

Have not been in my shop for awhile either. Takes too long to get the heat up there.More snow last nite on top of about 7-8 we already had.

Oh but suppose to be 50 and rain Sunday  :bigsmyl:

Roy, can you post a picture of that little saw when you get it? Sounds interesting.
My first bow came out heavy. I’ll see if I can drop enough weight, but I’m getting ready to glue up another one anyway.
I lucked out at work today. I was looking at a bunch of pallet wood that’s leaning up against the wall behind my cut off saw and one nasty looking piece caught my eye. It was all black and moldy, so I cut off a piece throw it into the firewood box. I looked at the end and I thought that’s interesting , so I shaved off a bit with the saw and sure enough it’s spalted.  :goldtooth:
I brought it home. There’s enough for at least one riser and a few game calls.
Later, I was carrying out some firewood for one of the ladies I work with and she had some of those square foam mats that kids play on in her car. She said that she was going to throw them out. They were barely used so I said that I could use them either on the shop floor or to line the bottom of my hunting kayak.
Dave.

I checked my fire hose for leaks, feathered out the fades on the riser today, brushed off all the lams and glued it up.
I use the door on the hot box and some brown paper to glue up my bows

This is what I use to spread smooth-on
