Man, l would love to see that in a riser.
Speaking of boiling wood, I have some cool riser blanks that I glued up that would require the back lams to curve up the ramps like on a Black Widow. Can bamboo be boiled and formed to the curve or would dry heat work better?

I do thin it quite a bit. It will be about 1/8” thick in the center. The problem is that there’s a fairly tight radius to the ramps and I would like to pre form the bamboo so it won’t break when I clamp it. Here’s a picture of the risers.

If I can get it to work, I’ll build on one of these.

Got the riser cleaned up and glued it and the tip overlays on the bow.

My biggest concern was getting the center strip of the riser centered with the boo backing, never did a 3 section riser before.

It was sort of a guessing thing as the Osage belly was not exactly the same width on each side sticking out past the boo backing, was about 1/8th difference. Time will tell, heck I'm hoping for Kenny's name anyways:)

I precut the end of the riser before glue up to make it easier to finish it after glue up. I always need to be careful shaping removing wood off the end of the riser without removing wood from the belly lam.

Did I mention that patience is not one of my best traits?

Riser glued on with unibond800 and tips glued on with EA40.

I first wrap the tips with plastic wrap, then secure with heavy gum bands.

Are yah Sure..???   I got some Jatoba and it is the heaviest, hardest wood that I ever worked with...  You said that it was not super heavy...  57lbs. to me is pretty damn heavy... Feels like I am holding a chunk of concrete...

No personal experience with bamboo, but the guys that form it for recurve tips and the like seem to always use dry heat. They also use a form where the bamboo is pushed down into the form rather than bent around the outside so that the outer fibres are untouched.

57lbs. to me is pretty damn heavy...

That isn't much heavier than the hard maple I have used. It is usually around 54lb/cu.ft.

I think I’m going to try both ways to bend my bamboo. I tried once with the heat gun and I wasn’t happy with the results. Could be I did something wrong. I need to get it to bend backwards as the risers I want to use are forward style.
I’m going to puta form together and I’ll post the results.

Yes, it does...  As partial as I am to the looks of Sheoak and the pride in milling it myself...  I would like to make a nice bow with an over-sized riser out of Jatoba for myself to shoot target and 3-D... You can't beat the stuff... It is inexpensive, heavy and I believe non-oily...  But it is tuff on tools...
