The new field of science I was talking about is Post NORMAL Science. Basically it is a field of science in which the norms of science, like evidence and proof, don't count. So it is science without actual science, but it is still called science by some who need to call it science for their own purposes. My fellow hunters found this discussion interesting and informative.

I will hold off on any further explanation of the Double Declining Negative until next year's Laredo Tusk Roundup. Once mastered, the concept explains many perplexing phenomena.

I am the only hunter in the group who did not take a shot. I was haunted by things like a flock of doves dive bombing and spooking the javelina I was about to shoot, and howling coyotes spooking my well-stalked javelina at the last second. I saw dozens each day, but had the bad-luck blues all week.

A note on equipment. I packed some Turtleskin snake gaiters, and I am glad I did. I ended up wearing them every day and my shins were protected from the nasty thorns that are everywhere. Every kind of plant has thorns, and lots of them.

Hopefully the attachment is visible.  This is one of a series of ground blinds used to intercept Javvie's as they worked down travel corridors or fed on corned roads.  I found that the Javvie's did not as a rule, eat as fast or as aggressive as sounders of hogs would.

Tons and tons of cactus and thorns, so slipping off the road for an ambush was not so easy and pickking out cactus spurs was a daily chore.

These instructions were posted in the shooting towers that we used to spot game from to go chase.  The roads we used were mostly long and straight without a lot of good bends to slip upon them.

The other guys saw some big deer.

Sorry for not spell-checking previous two posts.

This is the result of a moving shot, at 4 yards, where the arrow was too far back. Terry went in hard to find, lost a decent amount of blood, and got scratched to hell. When I got back to trail, as we were on the other side of the ranch allowing for good recovery time, I found shaft and broadhead, but after an extensive search no recovery.

Was shooting a 60" Fedora Extreme, 3-piece longbow @ 54 lbs. Doug Fir shafts from D&M archery, 4 fletch which I really like. (First time using)  4-Blade Zwickey.  Equipment Good; shooter not so good.

Yep, snake boots. Russell's, have to be 20 years old.  Very comfortable on soles of the feet and warded off tons of thorns and cactus.

Frontal view- this ground blind allowed for 3 shots, very close range. 2 poor shots by me, (covered up with eyes everywhere, and that's a good an excuse as I have) and one excellent kill shot from James.  We were about 25 yards from a deer feeder and a good sized travel cut-through.

Afternoons had the most action, but they could appear at anytime.

Fedora- FYI- I live about 2 hours from Mike's shop, and when he was still active bought the bow I took on this hunt and a second set of heavier limbs.  Took shooting lessons as well!  Must not have remembered to pick a spot; can't blame the coach for that.

Coffee was excellent!  Day Cabana Boy Terry delivered my first cup. (no repeat performance for the rest of the week.)

Fish Fry; exceptional thanks to Sam and Patrick. Educational lectures by Smoking Joe entertained as well as informed, but I needed a Thesaurus for a few of the words; he was patient.

Fine time had by all. 70' and above all week, we a few chilly mornings and some wind.

Over and out.

Bill

It was a great time. It didn't last long enough, but for me a month would be too short. The cover was thick and thorny. The animals were plentiful. The food we prepared was excellent. And the stories told in camp never let actual facts get in the way of a good hunting tale. Everything was just as it should be in a great hunt camp. We were all very entertained by "Pher stories" and suggestions for chapters in "The Book of Seph."

If you don't know what we mean by Pher Stories or the Book of Seph, you will have to tune in next year for the next edition of LAREDO TUSK ROUNDUP.
