I had one of those skinny Harbor Freight sanders -- worst waste of money I ever spent. Lasted about 2 minutes before self destructing. I returned the pieces and got my money back. I would like to try a *real* brand one though...

I have an old Sears 1" wide belt sander, it had a 4" disc on it too that didn't run all that smooth and caused vibration so I removed it.

It gotta be 20 years old and still going strong.

The belt can be replaced in about 2 minutes.

I use it on every bow I make.

It's in the background, only picture I have of it.

X2 for the 2X72 belt grinder. The belts are cheap and there are a thousand different home-brews for making the machines. I can use this one upright or in the position in the picture and the platens can be removed or repositioned.

I use a Makita 9031 1"x21" sander. It is the best tool in my shop, take the patton off and it is great for profiling risers or rounding the limb edges. Kinda pricey on Amazon $229 but well worth it. 80 grit works best for me .You won't be dissatisfied

Looked like at least 3 different sanding machines they were using. The one I'm thinking you guys are referring to looked like a 2X72 belt with the flat platen replaced with a metal rod. Depending on the machine that could be an easy modification.

I was checking out the Grizzly 2 X 72 belt grinder, it looks like it could be modified pretty easily for what you have in mind.

Ouch! Yeah I did not look at the price. I was curious how easy it would be to modify a stock machine rather than build one from scratch. The machine in the video looked to be customized.
