Warm weather camo?!
« on: April 24, 2008, 12:21:00 PM »
Hi there everybody! I'm going to Africa soon and was wondering what camo you use? Last time I went, my camo was too hot! What good light weight camo do you guys use? I had a Cabelas Leafy suit wich by 10am was killing me! I walk and stalk so, moving around gets a sweat going if you wear anything more than shorts and t-shirt!!
Please help1  :help:

ASAT leafy suit with shorts and a tshirt underneath would be just the ticket.

Agreed...that's what I do here in Florida.  I've hunted on days when it is in the 90's.  I won't say you'll be cool, but it is about as light as you can go.

TRy this for a starter. It isn't camo, but you can cvery easily pin on or sew on the cloth strips or leaves to make it a warm weather 3D anti bug suit. Check here for the leaves ready to pin or sew on.

+1

I love mine and have worn it in some very hot weather.  Haven't been spotted by a deer yet.

I hunt in either Australian army issue Ozcam  [ if you can get it - best camo] or  mesh leafy suit in advantage camo that I have bleached much lighter with vinegar and lots of time on the cloths line . Usually with breif shorts and a sleeveless T shirt underneath  I commonly hunt in temperatures that excede 100 degree's the majotity of the time .

Could you source some US army issue camo as used in Iraq ? . We have similar vegatation and conditions in much of Australia that you would encounter in Africa and I reckon it would blend in well

Whitewater's Realtree Pro-Series works for me.  They have an EXO-Mesh series of shirts, pants and accessories that work great in warm/hot weather.

the three color desert camo would be awesome in africa I have always thought, it is cheap just about anywhere bc the military is phasing it out, or you could try some MARPAT desert as well,

A trick we used in iraq when the COs werent looking was to cut the sleeves off of our blouses to make them cooler in the heat, this could also be just the ticket in africa cause it sure worked in the desert

Predator camo makes some in a 6 pocket polyester pant and shirt for "the warmest days"-might be worth a look.

Keep the camo light.
My experience is that most of the colours are too green and dark.
My tracker used a BLUE Adidas jacket and i think it was me that spooked the animals....LOL.
But i used t-shirt(sand) coloured ond covered my arms and face with camo cream.
I used a light camo cotton pants.
I stalked a bushbock and shot it at 10 yrds...it never understood what happend.
Go for light colours and drink more water than you want the whole day!!!!
All the best for your trip!!!!
