Belt sander modify
« on: February 16, 2021, 07:11:04 PM »
I bought a Grizzly G0512 - 6" x 80" Edge Sander w/ Wrap-Around Table years back and it had some issues.
The press board Table top with Formica lam. was not flat.
The angle brackets to hold the table top to the machine were warp because of the long slot punched in it.

So I got some 1 x 1 x 1/8" angle aluminum, carriage bolt 50 I think, nuts.
I drilled the holes and bolted the angle alum. to the bottom. look close on the 2nd picture and you can see some.

For the warped angle bracket I welded a 1/4" x1-1/2" to make it like angle iron and 4 turn buckles 2nd picture, The angle alum. for the turn buckles is 2x2 x1/8"

The table was design to be raised and lowered, BUT for how I wanted to use mine I saw no need to raise the table.
The table is nice and flat and square to the sanding belt.

Shweet...  Kinda looks like you know what your doin...

I swear...  Most like everything else made nowadays...  It looks good but the quality sucks...  I bought a Jet standing drill press bout 5 years ago...  Very disappointed in the quality...  Did not see any difference in that one and a harbor freight one... Wait...  There was a big difference...  The Jet one was twice the price...   :saywhat:

Nice fix Max   That was a lot of work for a new machine! I don't think I have ever bought a woodworking machine that did not have some slop, runout or lack of flatness. I think that why I started making my own. If they are going to be flawed, they might as well be cheap also :)

I'm a fabricator too, but sort of a different kind!  :)

My best guess is that he recalls a lot of great stories ... and some of them are even true :deadhorse: !

Cool mod!
When I first got mine I was really frustrated and couldn’t understand why a brand new machine wouldn’t have a table that was square to the platen.

I was in a hurry to get this machine put together when I got it, so I went down to Lowes and all they had was the----- 1 x1x 1/8 alum. angle.
If I was to do it again I would use 1-1/2" angle.
But this is holding up good

And here all this time I thought you was a real fabricator?

Using weak aluminum instead of steel angle iron.

Priceless:)
